Recently my laptop has been experiencing issues. It started with the laptop not finding any wireless connections at all. This was certainly due to the laptop, because other devices could find numerous networks. I tried restarting the laptop to see if it would resolve the issue, but the laptop did not reboot. It just displays the loading screen with the HP logo for all eternity.
I have made numerous attempts at getting the laptop to start up properly, and I have been able to get it to boot up twice (I'm still not sure exactly how). Both times, however, my wireless connection would die after a while and trying to boot the laptop afterwards had the same effect; it would not boot.
I have followed some troubleshooting guides (like this one), which led me to reset my BIOS (which did absolutely nothing) and return the PC to a previous state (which worked in getting it to start up, but did not resolve the actual issue).
One time when I shut the PC down, I got a "driver power state failure" BSOD error.
I do not know what to try anymore, and my laptop is really dear to me, so I hope that someone can help me.

I thought I'd reset my PC while leaving my personal files untouched, and what do you know, it worked! My PC has been working as it should for a couple of hours now, so I'm quite sure the problem has been resolved. Thanks again for all the help, I really appreciate it.

Hi @JoieNL
Welcome to HP Support Forums. A really great platform for posting all your questions and finding solutions.
I understand that the Notebook is not booting up and you have attempted a System Restore as well.
I'd like to help.
I appreciate all the troubleshooting steps attempted.
I suggest you take a Backup of your Notebook and do a System Recovery back to Factory Settings.
- Turn off the computer.Disconnect all connected devices and cables such as Personal Media Drives, USB drives, printers, and faxes.
- Turn on the computer and repeatedly press the F11 key about once every second until the Choose an option screen is displayed, and then continue.
- On the Choose an Option screen, click Troubleshoot.
- On the Troubleshoot screen, click Recovery Manager.
- Under Help, click System Recovery.
- When Recovery Manager prompts you to back up your files, select a backup option:
- The Welcome to HP Recovery Manager screen is displayed. Read the on-screen information, and then disconnect any connected devices and cables, such as Personal Media Drives, USB drives, printers, and faxes.
- Remove media from internal drives, and remove any recently added internal hardware.
- Click Next to continue.
- When recovery preparation is complete, click Continue to proceed to the installation phase of the recovery process. The computer restarts several times during the recovery. This is normal. Do not close, shut down, or disconnect the computer while HP Recovery runs.
- Recovery Manager reformats the Windows partition and reinstalls the original software.
- After the system recovery is complete, click Finish to restart the computer. Complete the setup screens and wait until the computer finishes the setup.
- Once the setup is complete, turn off the computer, reconnect all devices and cables, and then turn on the computer.
- Before using the computer, update and protect your computer by reinstalling any virus and security software that was installed before the system recovery.
- Reinstall any software programs that were added after purchasing the computer, as well as any files that were backed up.
Thank you. 🙂

Yesterday I backed up some important files and reset my laptop to factory settings. After the setup had finished, it seems to work fine. I had to update to Windows 10 (my laptop came with Windows 😎 again. The PC had to restart a couple of times, and this went fine. Once the up-to-date version of the OS had finished installing, I ran Windows update. It installed quite some stuff and required another restart, so I restarted. However, when the PC was shutting down, I got the BSOD error "driver power state failure". The PC shut down and when I tried to boot it up again the problem was back; it would not boot.
The fact that it restarted without problems only before I ran Windows Update makes me believe that one of the updates causes this issue. It would also explain why the issue arose so suddenly last time, as I had automatic updates turned on. If so, I think this is not not right place to be taking this issue, but maybe someone here can point me in the right direction anyway.
I appreciate all the help so far and I hope that my problem can be resolved.
