HP Notebook 15
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

After downloading a recommended HP Notebook System BIOS update, I have been unable to get back into Windows 10. The pin I was using is not working and the former password not working.  I did a password reset and still cannot get into windows 10. I have tried getting into safe mode, but all I get on my screen are the following:

F1.  System Information

F2.  System diagnostics

F9.  Boot device options

F10. BIOS setup

F11. System recovery

Enter - Continue startup

I cannot get into any of the above listed options

how do I recover my password and get into windows10

@KaroNut

Thank you for posting on HP Forums,

The Barachiel is at your service.

I understand you are in need of support,

I'll be glad to help you out, however, for an accurate solution I will need more details:

What is the product number of your device? Use this link to find it: http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c03754824

(Ensure you do not share any of your personal information such as serial, phone number, email ID, etc...).

In the meantime, please try the steps mentioned below:

  1. Turn off the notebook.

  2. Plug the notebook into a power source using the power adapter.

  3. With the notebook off, press and hold the Windows logo key  and the B key at the same time.

       NOTE:

On some notebook models, it might be necessary to press and hold the Windows logo key  and the V key.

  4. While pressing those keys, press and hold the Power button on the computer for 2 to 3 seconds, and then release the Power button but continue to hold the Windows logo key  and the B or V key until the HP BIOS update screen displays or you hear a beeping sound (usually 8 beeps).

The HP BIOS Update screen displays, and the BIOS update begins automatically. This might take several minutes, and you might hear additional beeping sounds.

Let me know how that pans out. 🙂

I hope you have a good day ahead,

And Feel free to ask any other queries as  well,

Considering, this forum has some of the best people in the world available and ready to help. 😉

Unfortunately it did not work😐. It did do the BIOS update, but it doesn’t recognize my pin or password. I get a message with a code of 0x8009002d.

@KaroNut,

It looks like you were interacting with @Barachiel, but he is out for the day & I'll be glad to help you out,

I see you are having issues logging into your account after the recent bios update. Don't worry I'll do my best to help you with this.

Let's try to a Bios roll-back/Bios Recovery - Follow the steps here - HP Notebook PCs - Recovering the BIOS

Step 1: Recover the BIOS using a key press combination

Step 2: Download a replacement BIOS file

Step 3: Create a BIOS recovery flash drive

If this does not help, then I would suggest you try to follow the steps suggested in the support document to HP PCs - How to Change or Reset Password (Windows 10)

If the issue persists, I would suggest this could be either a software issue,I would personally suggest you could try to perform a Microsoft push button reset on the PC. What it does if it works is to reinstall the operating system without usually losing data.

If you have followed the steps and still having the issue, I would suggest here is to perform a System recovery using the partition available on the PC.

HP PCs - How to Reset Your Computer to Factory Settings (Windows 10, 8, 7)

Doing this will wipe off everything and set the computer back to the original factory conditions. So, please remember to back up your data before initiating system recovery. If for some reason the recovery fails. The only other way to install Windows would be to order the recovery media for your laptop and using the recovery media you can install Windows. You can check if the recovery media is available online on www.hp.com/drivers by entering the exact model no. of your laptop. To find the exact model no. click here: http://hp.care/2bygf7l

HP PCs - Obtaining HP Recovery Discs or an HP USB Recovery Drive

  1. HP Technical Support can be reached by clicking on the following link: http://h22207.www2.hp.com/us-en/?openCLC=true
  2. Click on "Continue as guest".
  3. Enter the serial of your device.
  4. Select the country from the drop-down.
  5. Click on "Show Options".
  6. Fill the web-form. A case number and phone number will now populate for you.

If you have any troubles, let me know and I will do my best to help!

Hope this helps, for any further queries reply to the post and feel free to join us again
