Hi All,
I have a friends laptop that won't boot to windows and just restarts to "Windows ran into a problem and needs to restart"
Running hp diagnostics resulted in the following reported Product Id and Failure Id:
Product Id: D4A74PA#ABG
Failure Id: U08C3T-6GEAB4-MFGK0K-60VC03
How do I look up this failure id ?

Hi:
Below is the failure report generated by the code you posted, minus the notebook's serial number.
U08C3T-6GEAB4-MFGK0K-60VC03 | OK | XXXXXXXXXX | 12/21/20 | 303 | Storage | Floppy Drive, Hard Drive, Memory Drive, Optical Drive, SCSI, Tape Drive | Hard Disk 1 Quick Test Failure |
You will need to install a new hard drive, and reinstall the operating system.
Below is the link to the service manual, where you can find the hard drive removal and replacement procedure.
After you replace the drive, you can reinstall W8.1 64 bit as follows...
Install W8.1 by creating the Microsoft installation media, using another Windows PC...You want the plain W8.1 64 bit ISO file.
https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows8ISO
At the beginning of the installation routine, you can delete every partition on there.
If you are asked to enter a product key during the installation process, use this generic key.
This is the generic key for W8.1 'standard.'
334NH-RXG76-64THK-C7CKG-D3VPT
If you had to enter the generic key, manually change the generic product key to the W8 'standard' key in your PC's BIOS in the PC settings menu.
After you get W8.1 installed, and you had to manually enter the generic product key, you will need to run the free utility I zipped up and attached below, that will show you show the W8 product key in your PC's BIOS.
I have also zipped up and attached below, the Microsoft tool which hopefully will transfer the ISO file to a DVD or USB flash drive so it is bootable.
Then you can install the available drivers and software from the PC's support page.
HP 1000-1227TU Notebook PC Software and Driver Downloads | HP® Customer Support
To boot from the installation media you made, turn on the PC, tap the ESC key to get the menu of options.
Select the F9 boot options menu, and from that select the USB flash drive or DVD you want to boot from and press the Enter key, and the PC should boot from that device and Windows should begin to load the installation files.
