Hi

I recently purchased this new Laptop and am having problems with it occasionally failing to boot into windows.

I see on the HP Website that there is a BIOS update for this machine that apparently addresses the problem I am experiencing but I am confused because my current BIOS Version is not shown in the list of previous BIOS software versions and when I run the installed Support Assistant softtware on the machine there is no mention of a BIOS update.

As an aside, I have done every recommended software updates using the Support Assistant, yet when I look at the available updates on the Web Site for my machine there a numerous others being shown.  Also, some updates are repeated as Rev A and Rev B, and I don't know what this means.  Furthermore, because there are updates for other software items, for different makes of hardware, I would have expected only those updates to appear in the Support Assistant that are relevant to my particular machine.

I would appreciate any advice or comment on this situation before I proceed further.

Mo

Hello @Mo42,

I read your post about the issue with the notebook booting, and wanted to assist you!

There seems to be an issue with updating the BIOS through the HP Support Assistant.  For the moment, you can download the BIOS directly from the HP site.  You can find drivers for your product here: HP Pavilion Notebook - 15-ab271sa (ENERGY STAR)

Once you update the BIOS, and restart the notebook, let me know if the issue is resolved.

Hi

Thanks for the feedback.  I shall do as you suggest and update the BIOS using the HP Website Downloads.  I understood this machine had Windows 10 pre-installed but I am now thinking that it might have been updated from Windows 8 by the vendor.  The BIOS version installed might well have been the factory original one relating to Windows 8 and that might account for it not appearing on the list pf software for my machine and Windows 10.

I'll post back after I have updated.

Hi

I updated the BIOS this morning and had no problem doing so.  I made a BIOS Recovery first on a flash drive just to be on the safe side but everything seems to be working fine.  Hopefully, this will stop any further startup problems.
