My hard disk self test infi orms me I have 1 fault with error code 303....

Hi @Derek25

F11 will only open if there is a recovery partition on the computer and if it is working. Not in this case.

The Windows error 0xcf is a clear indication of a hardware falure + the newly confirmed error code 303.

The faulty component [HDD] needs to be replaced.Only after that you will be able to reinstall the operating system.

Hello @Derek25

From your previous posts I see you have already performed hardware diagnostics - if all the HDD and RAM tests passed withour issues, this confirms a Windows problem.

If your recovery media does not load, ensure your boot into the BIOS (F10) and that you do not have Secure Boot on .

If tyour discs does not work even after that, try re-creating them.

Do you have a COA sticker readable and attached to the PC - at the bottom or behind the battery  ?

In order to re-create Windows installation media, you can use this free utility

The tool will download ISO images from Microsoft and has lots of options for many Windows versions including OEM. If you use it, be careful to select the correct Windows ISO for the OEM, x86 or x64 edition, Home/Pro/Ultimate, etc...

When download completes, you will need to write or "burn" the ISO image and boot from a bootable media. You need to use either 1 empty/blank USB pendrive (4 GB capacity or more)  OR  an empty/blank DVD disc (4.7 GB capacity)

** How to create bootable ISO on USB device >> http://www.ubuntu.com/download/desktop/create-a-usb-stick-on-windows

or

** How to write ISO to DVD >> http://www.ubuntu.com/download/desktop/burn-a-dvd-on-windows

instructions are for Ubuntu, but you need to use the ISO image of Windows 7

When ready with the USB drive or with the DVD:

Please, shutdown the computer using the power button.

Insert the Windows USB thumdrive prepared previously

Power on the PC.

As soon as you press the power-on button, start hitting the Esc button repeatedly (like tap-tap-tap).

This should open a HP Startup Menu

Choose F9 to open Boot options. Select the USB thumb drive or the DVD as a boot option.

- Follow the on-screen instructions to install Windows 7. Perform clean installation/custom installation (not repair).

Delete all existing partitions and install Windows on Disc 0 Unallocated space

- After successful Windows installation, install drivers taken from HP web site

- Make sure Windows is Activated by going to Start > Control Panel > System

I’ve re booted it from windows 7 recovery disc which I created from another laptop running windows 7. I’ve even tried installing windows from my old windows xp system disc which I purchased from Microsoft years ago again no joy it won’t install beyond windows starting screen.

I’ve rebooted it with disks from windows website and HP with no joy. I cannot access a restore option as F11 button is not opening up the  option screen.

F2 , F8 and F10 keys are the only ones I can access when I boot up.

My hard disk self test informs me I have 1 fault with error code 303....
