I have joined this forum in hopes you all can help me with this very annoying issue I have been dealing with for the past few months.
I have the Red & Black Special Beats Edition HP 15 Notebook. For the past few months it will unexpectedly shut down and restart itself. I will be on it and the screen will go black and power off. It will then immediately turn itself back on and load as normal. No error messages. It also doesn't seem to be an overheating issue as it has on occasion happened within less than a minute or so of turning it on/waking it. And I can also game on it for hours without issue for the most part which I would assume if it was an overheating issue would not be the case. Just in case I had tried using a cooling pad which did nothing and have also had the fan replaced. Same thing happens. I am concerned it is caused by some sort of conflict from a Windows Update as I believe I read there have been some issues between them and the AMD processors/graphics.
I have no idea what action to take next. I really don't want to have to get a whole new computer. Any suggestions would be great. Should I perform a factory reset? An upgrade rollback? New power supply? Throw the whole darn thing out the window?
I have tried looking for an error file or log file, but I don't know much about them. The only thing it shows is the Kernel 41 error which just means the machine shut down unexpectedly. Nothing that seems to explain what it was that had gone on right before the critical error.
Please help!
EDIT: Oh, and I forgot to say I have run all of the hardware diagnostics and everything passes. The other interesting note is that when it does it powers back on after the sudden shut down it always turns the keyboard backlight off. Significant?
I have also already made sure that under the Windows Updates that it is not set to do automatic restarts/shut downs.

Hi! @spencer24, Thanks for stopping by the HP Support Forums!
I understand your laptop keeps restarting or shutting down randomly.
Don't worry I'll try to help you out.
Did you make any software or hardware changes on your PC?
Have you tried checking with a different battery or adapter?
Does the laptop restart when you are in BIOS?
Please provide the product number of your PC to assist you better.
As you mentioned your laptop keeps restarting or shutting down randomly.
Try restoring the BIOS to default and check if it helps.
- Turn off the computer and wait five seconds.
- Press the Power button to start the computer and repeatedly press the F10 key to enter the BIOS setup menu.
- On the BIOS Setup screen, press F9 to select and load the BIOS Setup Default settings.
- Press F10 to Save and Exit.
- Use the arrow keys to select Yes, then press Enter when asked Exit Saving Changes?
- Follow the prompts to restart your computer.
Try the steps recommended below.
1. Use Windows shortcut keys Win + PauseBreak to open the System window.
2. Select Advanced system settings from the left column and the System Properties will pop up.
3. Choose Advanced tab and click on the button Settings in the Startup and Recovery section.
4. Disable Automatically restart under System Failure, and then click OK.
1. Right-click on the Start menu and select Power Options. You can also access to this by right click on the battery icon in the taskbar if you are using a laptop.
2. Click on the Change plan settings beside the current plan the PC is using.
3. Click on the Change advanced power settings.
4. Navigate to and expand the Processor power management.
5. Expand the Minimum processor state and set the values lower than 100%. And then click OK.
6. Modify the Put the computer to sleep setting when using power or battery. Set the time value between 1 minute and 5 hours.
7. Save the changes and reboot.
If the laptop is not restarting in BIOS try updating the BIOS and chipset drivers on your PC using HP support assistant and check if it helps.
Refer this article to know more information about using HP support assistant.
Also, try running a system diagnostics test on your PC and check if the hardware components on your PC are working fine.
Refer this article to know more information about running system diagnostics on your PC.
If the hard drive diagnostics test passes on your PC. Try performing a recovery using the recovery discs.
If you don't have a set of recovery discs. Please contact HP support and order a set of recovery discs.

The only software changes are any Windows Updates that were automatically done.
I have not tried a different battery or power source, but Component Tests show no issues with them (or anything else for that matter).
I have updated the BIOS. No change.
I cannot any product number anywhere, not even in System Information or HP Support. Simply says HP Beats 15.
I see no point in going to default BIOS because that is what I had when this all started happening. As stated, updating did no good.
I have already turned off the Automatic Restart under both system failure and for Windows Updates. I have also already tried all of the power management tips suggested. And I see no point in doing a reset as I have seen someone else already try that to no avail. It seems that would provide nothing but an inconvenience.
Again, as previously stated, all component & hardware tests show no issue,

I am having the same kind of trouble. Mine shuts down randonly then have to restart like 3 times then it will let me use. I am going to try the above but from your notes it sounds like that is not working and the problems are similar but not exactly thee same so I thought I would put this out there to see if anyone has any other suggestions
