Watch this video for how to replace a M.2 SATA SSD.

It starts at minute 5:12.

Removing & replacing parts for HP 15-ef0000 Laptop PC | HP Computer Service - YouTube

I'm so stupid I didn't insert it in the slot that It was supposed to go in and I put it under it thinking that's where it was supposed to go so it's not even inserted it's beneath the slot where it's supposed to go in at not sure if that makes sense

I guess if there was space under the slot, it would be possible to do that.

Did you do the same thing with the NVME SSD?

Maybe that's why it didn't work

I'm actually pretty sure this is exactly what I did because of the fact that it was so loose that I could easily pick it and wiggle it without anything holding it down and from the looks of that video when you push it in you're supposed to be able to feel like it's actually been pushed in and when I wiggle mine or push mine it basically felt like I'm pushing it into open air not into a slot like I'm basically sliding it into just an open space I also didn't line it up with anything I just thought you push it in not that it has to go in a slot and there's space underneath that slot that I pushed it into instead of the space inside the slot which caused it to not even be seen probably because of the fact that well it wasn't even connected 😭 so I'm going to try my first one again and if it still doesn't work after I watch the video and make sure I do it right then I know that the nvme SSD doesn't work and then I'll try the new egg SSD if that doesn't work

Good grief!

You can clean install W11.

Make a bootable USB installation flash drive with the media creation tool from the link below (2nd option).

Download Windows 11 (microsoft.com)

After the media is created, boot from it, install W11 and after W11 installs, you can install the drivers and available software from your notebook's support page.

You can do the same thing for W10 if you want, just use this link instead...

Download Windows 10 (microsoft.com)

Ok when you say boot from it do u mean plugging it back into my computer with new SSD ? How exactly do I boot from it?

HP Recommended

After you have successfully created the bootable Windows 11 or Windows 10 USB flash drive using another PC, plug the drive into your notebook.

Turn it on and immediately press/tap the ESC key to get the menu of options.

Select the F9 boot options menu and from that, select the USB flash drive you made with the media creation tool, and press the Enter key.

The PC should boot from the flash drive, load some files, arrive at an 'Install Now' screen, and you can follow the on-screen instructions for there.

There are plenty of YouTube videos out there for how to install Windows.

Okay I did what you said without having to look up any YouTube videos my computer is on and running so thank you the only thing Im confused about is the USB I'm using is a 256 USB SanDisk but when I downloaded the software for some reason not only is the USB name changed the storage is not the same storage it was before I downloaded the media device for Windows now instead of saying 256 GB it says 27.4 GB free of 31.9 GB and I'm not sure how to fix it because that's not the correct GB at all for the flash drive. also does the flash drive have to stay in the computer or can I take it out?

HP Recommended

You're very welcome.

Leave the flash drive plugged in and go to 'This PC' where you should see the USB recovery drive there.

Right click on the USB drive and select Format.

Leave the settings as they are, but in the Volume label section, you can backspace that name out of it (it says HP recovery, right?).

Then the SanDisk USB flash drive should be formatted back to its original condition.

After that is done you can remove the drive from the USB port.
