HP ENVY 17 J184NA
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi,

I wish to partition the 1TB drive that this laptop came with. Now I have Win10 on it.

I have been in the BIOS and chnaged boot order and disabled Secure Boot.

Received the passcode prompt for change and entered it. Reentered BIOS and Secure Boot is disabled, yet the boot manager option on F9 only shows

OS Boot Manager

EUFI File?

The CD is bootable (it is Acronis Tru Image boot CD). I have tested it on an Acer laptop and it boots fine. I tried a USB stick created by Windows media Creation tool and it will boot from that, but I want to use ATI to make a backup before repartitioning using windows disk management.

What do I need to do to get this laptop to boot as I wish?

Order is

CD

USB

OS

USB CD/DVD

TIA

Hi,

You probably have to enable legacy boot in the Bios.

Hope it helps,

David

Hi David,

I did try that, but received a warning that I might not be able to boot the laptop?

So is it safe to do that?

TIA

Hi TIA,

It is safe to enable legacy boot and you can always change it again once you have finished with the bootable cd.

Hope it helps,

David

Hi David,

That appears to have done the trick  in reagrd to booting from  a CD.

I've left it set for now, but the laptop is quite slow to boot to Windows and open Outlook at startup, since changing it.

I'll monitor that though, and switch it off until needed if it dooes affect the speed of the laptop, as I have 12GB, so it is quite nippy most times.

Many thanks for the reply.
