My PC no longer recognizes one RAM slot, showing only 4GB of RAM instead of 8, I tried swapping the RAM but only one slot is not recognized

Hi @Francesc0_Flo_-,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

 Thanks for reaching out!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

I Understand that your concern, don’t worry I will help you with this .

  • When did you first notice that one RAM slot wasn’t recognized?
  • Are you seeing any error messages or beeps during boot when the RAM is installed in the problematic slot?
  • Have you tried checking the RAM modules individually in the working slot to confirm they’re both functional?

In the meantime, here are some troubleshooting steps you could try:

  1. Power reset the laptop
    • Shut down the laptop completely, unplug the charger,
    • Hold the power button for 20–30 seconds, then reconnect power and try booting again.
  2. Clean the RAM slot
    • Sometimes dust or debris can prevent proper contact. Use compressed air to gently clean the slot.
  3. Check BIOS/UEFI
    • Enter BIOS during boot and see if both RAM slots are detected there.
    • If the slot shows as disabled, you might need to reset BIOS settings to default.
  4. Test with a single module
    • Place one working RAM module in the problematic slot to see if the laptop detects it.
    • Repeat with the other module. If neither works, it points to a hardware issue with the slot.
  5. Update BIOS and chipset drivers
    • Sometimes memory detection issues are resolved with BIOS or chipset driver updates. Check HP’s support website for the latest versions for your Pavilion Gaming 15-ec1000.

I hope this helps.
