When I play some games that require high CPU loads, I noticed that there are some severe lags when I play the game for about 5-10 mins. I checked task manager and it said that CPU 0 and 1 is active and CPU 2 and 3 is parked, which means 50% of the CPU power is not utilized. I searched the web for some guides that help me disable the core parking (C6 state), that does help me unpark all cores on normal use, but when I use CPU demanding programs, it keeps locking my cores after a short time. Here are some screenshots of the stress test I've done on the CPU:
This is the screenshot taken before the test. Everything looks fine, the CPU is unparked, temp looks fine.
Then when the stress test ran for about 3 mins, CPU 0 and 1 stopped as you can see in the task manager and the temp manager.
After that I stopped the test and wait about 30 secs then CPU 0 and 1 started working again.
I've not reached the TDP limit and the temp limit, my CPU doesn't support turbo boost. Please help.

Welcome to the HP Support Community. I understand you are facing slow performance issues while gaming. I'd be happy to assist you.
This model PC is not designed for high-end gaming. HP does not recommend using 3rd party tools to run a stress test on the device, as it may not be accurate.
Install updates using HP Support Assistant
- In the search box, type and open HP Support Assistant.
- Check for updates.
- If the updates are available, click on install and restart the computer.
Note: If you do not have HP Support Assistant installed, Click here to download the same.
To help with underclocking,
Go to, Control Panel > Power Options > Chose What the Power Button Does > at the top, click "Change settings that are currently unavailable", the under Shutdown Settings, uncheck "Turn on fast startup"
Let us also run a hardware test on PC components to check its functionality.
- Hold the power button for at least five seconds to turn off the computer.
- Turn on the computer and immediately press Esc repeatedly, about once every second. When the menu appears, press the F2 key.
- Perform System Test > Extensive test. Share the result on your next post.
