HP Laptop i5, 6gb ram, 1000gb hdd
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Stock Hp Laptop specs were 1000gb hdd, 6gb ram, and i5 intel cpu. The disk usage constantly runs at 100% which makes the laptop super slow.

I upgraded the ram to 16gb, and a different hdd thats 1000gb. Wiped the laptop clean a fresh start nothing on it and its better it wont constantly be at 100% disk usage but it spikes and fluctuates even hitting 100% usage.

Troubleshooting I did:

-Updated windows/Drivers

-Cleaned the internal hardware/checked for loose cables

-Performed optimization on the drives

-Checked health of ram, cpu, hdd, everything was fine

-Turned off some background services such as sysmain, connected users, and windows search

Kinda stuck on what I should do I’m thinking the hdd’s are just slower so I’m going to try an SSD as in general they perform faster, but any ideas and help would be appreciated.

@minerjack

100% Disk Usage does not mean it is full, that shows activity and 100% means it is working very hard. Probably it spins at 5400RPM which is a slow disk.

Your machine only has 6GB, (4GB+2GB) - too small and unbalance the result is system has to page/swap works to disk a lot caused the disk spinning itself to dead.

What is your machine, you can do:

1. Upgrade 6GB of RAM to 16GB or 32GB (if supported)

2. Replace HDD with 1TB or 2TB 2.5" SSD.

You can do 1 and 2 at the same time OR do 1 first.

Regards.
