Agreed the same for me!! HP Coolsense is a broken piece of software, I understand its there to help prevent overheating (no idea how effective it is), but from 5-10% disk to 100% is crazy!?
It’s a shame anyone going to HP support will likely never be told to turn off coolsense as it would be a crime to report their own software as broken.
TL;DR I’d rather have warm thighs and a working computer, so I turned off HP coolsense

Hey, these are a temporary relief to your problem. This is the way they escape from this issue often. I also went through same steps as per after hp online support. Then it gave me the same result as you shown here. But it did not last for a week. I am still struggling with the same problem. holy crap!

All - uninstalling Coolsense initially seemed to resolve the issue. However, I few days later I was right back to 100% disk utilization. The first thing I do now is check Windows update. Everytime my disk is at 100%, Windows Update is at work downloading or installing something. As this laptop is only used several time a week, it alomost always has updates to apply. I've switched the service to manual, but there seems to be a trigger that starts it regardless. Once the updates are done, the disk utilization drops back down to practically nothing.
My suggestion would be to scrool down the disk column in the Task Manager and see what shows high usage.
Hoping maybe this helps someone a little. I keep watching this and if I stumble upon anything else, I will post.
Good luck all . . .

Same problem 100% disk usage issue on a 700-430eq desktop (core i7, 32GB RAM, 1TB HD, Intel 4600HD integrated graphics processor). My machine had many issues - the resolution of these may be helpful. The machine is now running fast like it used to and disk usage is seldom 100%.
First, go here https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/intel-driver-support-assistant.html to determine if all Intel related drivers are up to date. I found the Intel Rapid Storage Technology driver had been revised the previous year but the revision was never installed. I keep up with my updates but this one was never announced to my knowledge.
I ran Microsoft System File Checker. It found one corrupted file and fixed it. Although this worked for me, it would be better in my opinion to use DISM to fix corrupted files after downloading a new Windows 10 image. https://www.windowscentral.com/how-use-dism-command-line-utility-repair-windows-10-image is a well written article on this topic.
I found that my machine was trying to use both Wifi and ethernet (the hardwire network connection method) to communicate with my router. I decided on disabling the Wifi and using the ethernet method exclusively.
I use Sketchup extensively and learned that it uses Internet Explorer regardless of the browser I choose to use (Chrome). If you are having problems with a specific app, see if it works this way. If so, make sure IE is up to date and the settings are correct according to the publisher.
I use Carbonite for backup and Sketchup for drawing as mentioned. When Sketchup opens apparently it creates a backup file immediately and so Carbonite tries to create a backup immediately. Sketchup also creates Auto Saves every 10 minutes. Taken together this causes a lot of disk activity, especially if the working file is large, so I set Carbonite to backup only once daily after work hours.
My hard disk is about 80% full. I removed some files and defragmented the drive but couldn't see any difference in disk activity. Obviously I should install a SSD.
Although it shouldn't affect disk activity, changing the Performance Option Control Panel to favor performance rather than appearance had a marked positive effect on the perceived "speed" of my machine especially when opening apps and switching from one app to another.
I also let Windows decide on the virtual memory paging file size rather than following recommendations found in various forums. Recommendations in forums suggest a paging file size of 48GB for 32GB of RAM. Windows determined that 5GB was sufficient. In my case, I doubt the paging file ever would ever be used and to reserve 48GB on the hard disk seems pointless.
I did notice that running Resource Monitor while opening and running programs slows the computer noticably but I can't speak to how it affects disk activity.
I hope this gives you some ideas to pursue.
