Hi colleagues, whether the model 15-eh3174nw (AMD based) is compatible with Intel AX-series wireless adapters and can I change P/N M91238-005 (Realtel 8852BE) to compatible  Intel daughterboard? Thank you.

Hi:

HP only offered two model Wi-Fi adapters in the model series:

It is highly unlikely that an Intel card will work in your notebook, but if you want to experiment you can try this card/part number:

Intel AX210 Wi-Fi 6E 2x2 AX + Bluetooth 5.2 M.2 2230 non-vPro   HP part # / SPS # M27269-005.

It surprised me very much that the AX210 worked in a different model HP notebook with an AMD motherboard as you can see from this discussion:

Hopefully, you will have the same luck.

According to various forums over the Internet, HP do not block 3rd party devices in their BIOS (at least for Pavillions), but to make it working the hardware needs to be compatible. I found the post on reddit - https://www.reddit.com/r/IndianGaming/comments/1iswws0/comment/mdkvvql/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=...- where the guy says cards with TPN ending on 410 are compatible with non-Intel architectures, so I installed AX210 with the respective TPN - and it worked:

$ lspci | grep -i intel
01:00.0 Network controller: Intel Corporation Wi-Fi 6E(802.11ax) AX210/AX1675* 2x2 [Typhoon Peak] (rev 1a)

The connectivity is much more stable and no single issue with Bluetooth, so I'm satisfied. To be frank, I don't understand what HP saves using ugly WiFi/BT card  - this AX210 costs less than $20 on the street, so when buying laptop for $700 it makes no difference for me to pay $20 more.

Enjoy 🙂
