I also have this issue in an HP Envy 17, Model 17-j053ea.

The silver plastic top cover is slowly bending up and away from the lower, grey, plastic moulding in the area of the hinges, and worryingly appears to be taking the power inlet socket with it. The PC has never been subject to any rough treatment.

Although it is out of warranty, as others have said this is very clearly a manufacturing quality issue with respect to the top plastic moulding, and should have been the subject of a product recall or at least free remediation. It is not satisfactory for a relatively new PC from a reputable manufacturer to carry such a defect.

I'd be grateful for advice on how to get this fixed. Thanks.

So people who are posting on behalf of HP are you only selecting those you want to help to put them in contact with HP so they can get their laptops repaired? Because as of yet you haven't referred my info to HP or privately emailed me to provide a resolution to this same issue for me.....

Update on this deformed plastic moulding (manufacturing defect) issue on my PC:

Having gone round the houses with support I am informed that my unit has reached "end of support" only 3.5 years after purchase, and that no repair options at all are available, not even paid. The best they can offer me is 15% off a new one.

I am VERY unhappy that a PC is junk after 3.5 years. No car manufacturer would refuse support on their product after this period. I will not be inclined to buy HP again.

I am so glad to have found this help forum.  This is exactly what is happening with my HP Envy 17" laptop (17-j173cl).  It is affecting the fan, also.

I purchased the laptop on 4/9/2015.

Please contact me on options for repair.  Thank you!

I, too, am having the same problem as everyone else. When I open my hp envy, the case at the top left corner opens and it sounds like the fan grinds against something. Can someone please tell me how to fix it as I have files on there that have not yet been transferred to a hard drive and are quite important.
