Spectre x360 15-ch055na
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hello,

I recently purchased a HP Spectre x360 15-ch055na which came with 8GB of ram installed (2 x 4GB). I read on multiple messages on this forum that although the manuals for the x360 stated they were upgradable to 16GB only, 32GB would work in most models.

I purchased a 32GB Crucial kit (2 x 16GB PC4-19200) for my model however, it doesn't seem to work. Specifically this kit: https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B019FRCV9G/ref=twister_B07ZQXVSXP?th=1

After installing the ram, the system would not boot and ended up getting caught in a startup repair loop forcing me to reinsert the old ram and reinstalling windows. After the reinstall, I tried again, updated the BIOS also beforehand and got the same result. I was initially able to get into the BIOS which was showing Ram of 32gb however after a restart I was just getting a blank/black screen. I reinserted the old ram and it's working again however I would like to try to upgrade it to 32GB.

Has anyone any experience upgrading the 15-ch055na model to 32GB and if so which RAM modules did you use?

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Hello,

So after some trial and error on this, I can confirm that the HP Spectre x360 15-ch055na will accept 32GB of RAM. I originally purchased a set of Crucial CT2K16G4SFD824A RAM from Amazon UK (16GB x 2) PC4-19200 2400, after installing these the computer wouldn't boot and got caught in a recovery loop forcing me to reinstall the operating system. Whether this was a faulty ram module I don't really know.

Undeterred, I checked the RAM which was already installed in the laptop, 8GB set of Micron (4GB x 2) which was clocked at 2666Mhz even though the system downgrades it to 2400Mhz. I purchased a set 32GB of Timetec Hynix online (16GB x 2) PC4-21300 2666Mhz, installed and it works fine! I can confirm these RAM modules work with this system. I have also read online that it might be possible to upgrade to 64GB as the i7 processor does support this.

Hopefully, this clarifies the question for other users who have purchased this model of the Spectre x360. I am pretty sure other RAM modules will work with it, and in my case, it could have been a faulty item. However, I can confirm it will take up to 32GB (which will also be downgraded to the 2400mhz: checked with userbenchmark)

Looks like it supports 16GB max. From Crucial UK site, it only lists 16GB (2 x 8GB) as the right configuration

Hi @banhien

Thanks for the reply. Yes, I checked the crucial site and it showed 16GB max however I have also read on some forums that people have been able to upgrade to 32GB. The chipset i7 8705G can actually support up to 64GB so unless there are some limitations on the motherboard I can't see why it wouldn't take 32GB.

Also, I read a Reddit forum here: https://www.reddit.com/r/spectrex360/comments/93p8i9/question_ram_compatibility_in_hp_spectre_x360_1...

one of the users installed the exact same kit as I bought and it worked so I am confused as to why it didn't work for me.

Also, there are some youtube videos also in which people have confirmed upgrading the VEGA model to 32gb.
