HP Notebook - 15s-fq0012na, Product no. 7KB85EA

Windows 11 updated

It charges and the battery hold charge as well. The screen remain black. the caps lock blinks 5 long times then 3 short blinks.

I have opened it up and removed the battery and RAM then put them back.

I have held down the power button for 12sec, 20sec, and more the 30sec, plugged in the ac adapter.

I've held down the windows + b then power button, released the power button and held the windows and b button for 10sec.

The lights are still blinking 5 long 3 short.

It worked for about 10 mins today before the screen went black.

how can I fix this?

Hi @Zell1,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

Sorry for the inconvenience caused and don’t worry let me help you.

To better understand the issue, could you please provide a few more details?

  • When the screen went black, did you hear the fans or hard drive spinning?
  • Have you connected the notebook to an external monitor to check if there’s any display output?
  • Did the system update BIOS recently, or only Windows?

Here are a few troubleshooting steps you can try:

  • External Display Test: Connect your notebook to an external monitor or TV with HDMI. If you see output there, the issue may be with the notebook’s display panel.
  • Hard Reset: Disconnect the AC adapter, and hold the power button for 15–20 seconds. Then reconnect only the AC adapter and try powering on.
  • Reseat RAM Again: Since memory issues can trigger blink codes, carefully remove and reseat the RAM modules. If you have more than one stick, try booting with one at a time.
  • BIOS Recovery: You mentioned trying Windows + B. Another option is Windows + V while pressing Power, which sometimes triggers BIOS recovery.
  • Check AC Adapter & Power: Even though the battery holds charge, ensure the adapter is supplying stable power. If possible, test with another compatible HP adapter. this helps.
