probook 640 G1
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

A friend of mine has an hp probook 640 g1 with no DVD and was using an external USB DVD when needed.  He asked if he could install an actual DVD in the bay and when I searched online, I saw some 2nd hand DVDs "700577" models advertised including the list below.   Will all these work and is there really any difference between any of them?   Seems the descriptions all say DVD-RW.

700577-6C0
700577-6C1
700577-6C2
700577-FC2
700577-FC3
700577-HC0
700577-HC1
700577-HC2

You're very welcome.

The non-HP part numbers are most likely the actual manufacturer's part number for the optical drive such as Sony, Lite-on, etc.

HP does not actually make any of the DVD drives used in their PC's.

Hi:

Below is the link to the service manual for the 640 G1.

HP ProBook 640 G1 Notebook PCHP ProBook 645 G1 Notebook PCHP ProBook 650 G1 Notebook PCHP ProBook 65...

The supported optical drives with HP part numbers can be found in chapter 3 on page 49.

I recommend you do a search on eBay and find a used but tested and working DVD with one of those part numbers.

Thanks for both your replies.   What's confusing (to me) is that there are often 2 numbers on these drives. I temporarily tried one that was labeled 700577-6C2 (from the list I posted) that ALSO had a 744822-001 sticker (which is the number found in the manual) and it seemed to work just fine.

When I search online to try to buy a 744822-001, I ALSO see stickers that read some of the other numbers that I've given in the list which is why I was confused.   Do you know if those are just alternate manufacturers and/or later models of the same part?
