Hey there! @Doingresearch,
Please share the product number of the PC to assist you better.
If you cannot eject a disc from the disc drive of your computer using the eject function of the software, try manually opening the tray-load drive. Almost all tray-load disc drives have an external release button and a small hole in the door to access the manual lock release.
Ejecting a disc using File Explorer
If using the Eject function in the software application does not open the drive, there might be an electronic or control problem. To resolve this problem with File Explorer, use the steps below.
-
Restart the computer. Click Start
, click Power, and select Restart.
Figure : Restarting the computer
Wait for the computer to restart and boot into Windows.
-
Click Start
. Then use one of the following methods to open File Explorer:
-
Click File Explorer in the menu.
-
Click the File Explorer
icon on the task bar.
Figure : Opening File Exploror
-
-
Right-click the icon for the stuck drive, and then click Eject.
Figure : Ejecting the disc
-
The door on the tray-load drive should open, or the disc in the slot-load drive should be ejected.
NOTE:
A slot-load drive with no external eject button will only eject from Windows.

If the door does not open or the disc does not eject, continue to the next sections to manually open the tray-load or slot-load drive.

Thank you for your suggestions. Unfortunately, I was still unable to get into the slot to find the DVD. My laptop is an HP Envy, 17.3" with Core i7 7th generation. The DVD has disappeared from the DVD drive and is somewhere in the slot where the DVD drive is located. It seems that I will have to remove the DVD drive from the computer to retrieve the DVD. I don't know how to do that.
Thank you.

@Doingresearch If the DVD is stuck inside the computer and now the DVD drive as such, we may need to work on opening the back panel and rescue the disc before it hurts itself or another component inside the device,
Here's what I'll need to provide accurate steps to help you rescue the disc:
