HP 17-X108CA HDD
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I just bought a  HP 17-X108CA. I5-7200u cpu, 16 gig ddr4 ram, etc. All great specs. Then HP sticks a 5400rpn 1T hdd in it, that turns into a machine slower than a pentium m.

I don't understand the mentallity of loading it up on 1 end, then putting crap in the other.  I would rather it came with a 250 or 500 sdd drive for about the same price. That  would make it such a better machine.

Didn't you know that when you bought it? Seriously, if you ordered an SSD and got a HDD that would be a serious issue. If you got what you ordered I am having a hard time understanding the problem. We could help you install an SSD if you wish.

I knew it would not be as fast  as an SSD, but I did not expect almost 2 minutes to boot.

My main complaint is how could a respected company like HP do something like that. That is like buying a high end car, with a 4 cylinder engine that does 0-60 in 3.4 days.

Mkaes no sence.  I really don't want to spend anoth $150 for something that SHOULD have been in such a high tech machine inthe first place.

SSD likely would have added $50-60 to the price. That model can only accept a 2.5 inch hard drive/SSD OR an M.2 SATA only. I have recently been seeing that model at Frys for like $600. Just out of curiosity, what did you pay for it?

HP Recommended

I can return it, but it was a good price and hard to find. So I don't want too.

I will probably take the 240 gig sdd, from the machine I am replacing and use that instead.

Just a dissapointment the HP would do that. esp a 5400, at least it should be a 7200.

I hionestly cant see anyone that buys a machine that is an new i5 and 16 gig of ddr4 would accept such a slow drive.

Sometimes a price is just too good to be true. I saw that model at Frys and almost bit but looked at the Manual on my phone at Frys and saw it was a 5400 rpm drive (which was also apparent in device manager) and had the same reaction.

That is the oldest computer marketing strategy...good specs all except one item hoping the purchaser will be dazzled by the good points. If you got it for around $600 adding $125 to get a good 256 gig SSD still makes it a decent deal.

Post back if you ned any more help.

800 Canadian. Comes out to approx 615 USD.

I just thnik they shouls spend the extra 30 for a ssd and forgot the crap.

HP Recommended

Of course...with an SSD that is more like an 800 dollar US laptop so you can still come out ahead.

Very true, and it was on sale for 100 off.

But like I said, I will use my old ssd, just a shame HP would cheap out llike that,

No argument..I also hope you got a decent wireless card. They have been known to "cheap out" on those from time to time.
