HP Notebook 14-amu090tu
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

See I have HP Notebook 14. It Has 4GB RAM DDR3L-1600 SDRAM (1X 4GB).

Issue- Many times I feel there is lag when I open a Microsoft Doc or Excel. Or go from one doc to another. Sometimes I have to wait for upto 10 seconds before the doc opens. Somtimes when I try to close a page on the internet, it hangs.
Q1- Should I increase the RAM to 6 or 8 GB?
Q2- Will that solve the problem of lag?
Q3- If Yes, is it possible in my notbook whose configuration is shared above?
Q4- If Not, what do you think should I do to make my notebook respond fast.

@jollykarmic, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

A 6GB RAM is sufficient for working on applications like MS Word or Excel. Only if you play games, work on a photo editing software, it is recommended to increase the RAM capacity.

For now, let us try these steps to resolve this issue:

Install updates using HP Support Assistant

  1. In the search box, type and open HP Support Assistant.
  2. Check for updates.
  3. If the updates are available, click on install and restart the computer.

Note: If you do not have HP Support Assistant installed, Click here to download the same.

Check for pending Windows updates. Reboot the computer.

Run the HP performance tune-up from HPSA as shown in this document.

If the issue persists, let us run a test on the hardware components of the PC

  1. Hold the power button for at least five seconds to turn off the computer.
  2. Turn on the computer and immediately press Esc repeatedly, about once every second. When the menu appears, press the F2 key.
  3. Perform System Test > Extensive test. Share the result on your next post.

More info on resolving slow performance issues can be found on Improving PC Performance (Windows 10)

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.

Dear Kumar
Thanks for your reply. But my problem persists.

1. I had already tried all the methods you suggested to tune up my laptop except checking hard drive at boot time (F2).
2. My RAM is 4GB and not 6 GB.
3. I have also started using video maker lately.
4. Should I buy 4 GB RAM more?
5. Does my laptop has place to add 4 GB RAM?

6. How to check if the seller is giving me original RAM
7. What should be the approximate cost of 4 GB RAM?

KIndly reply to all the questions in line, one by one for clarity and to ensure no question is left unanswered.

Using the model number mentioned in your post, I could not find a service guide on the HP Support site. Kindly send me a private message with the serial number of the computer.

Also, refer to this document to know how to find the Product Name or Product Number.

Keep me posted.
