Hello there...

I have a notebook ZE4354EA and i have to put a new HDD but I think that there is an adapter connector from the notebook to the 2,5" HDD because the plug in the notebook and the plug in the HDD look like different and it don't fit.The HDD I have  it's exactly the same as the original with the connector ATA-5 44pins.Somebody know if Hp use an ATA adapter to connect the HDD to the notebook plug? thank you.

Hi:

Yes, you are correct.

When you remove the drive, the connector usually comes off with it and you need to remove the connector from the drive.

Needless to say, if you are missing the connector, you will only be able to find one on a place like eBay as HP no longer sells parts for such an old notebook.

Hello Paul how are you?? I have another issue to ask you about this notebook. I found the connector for the Hdd and it's ok now but I have to install on hdd windows98 and not windowsxp. Do you know if it's possible install win 98 on this machine? I have a problem when the installation start to install all the plug and play devices. I see an error and the installation stop. With windowsXP everythink it's ok and the installation finish without problems. Do you think I have to upgrade the bios or something else?

thank you.

Hi:

Glad you were able to find the HDD adapter you need.

HP retired support for that model series a few years ago since it is more than 10 years old.

I'm afraid that you will probably not be able to get Win98 to work.

This driver site for your notebook only has drivers for Windows 2000 and XP, so if 98 was supported they would have had drivers for that OS too.

I driver per HP Pavilion ze4354EA (driverscollection.com)

I cross-referenced the equivalent HP business models and even those don't have Win98 drivers.

Just W2000 and XP.

Thank you paul...I tried to upgrade the bios to version 1.60.The bios it's a little different now but at the same point of the installation of win98 I have the same error and i can't go on. today i'll try to copy the cd win 98 in te Hdd and start the installation from hdd. maybe something change. It's strange because at the begin of the installation it make all the test of the hardware and everything look like ok and the installation start without problems untill the last step when install the plug & play devices. something happen in that moment.

You're very welcome.

It shouldn't be that W98 needs any storage controller drivers for that notebook, since it was before AHCI was mainstream.

Unfortunately, I wouldn't know why W98 fails to complete the installation process.

There is probably some device it does not recognize, and it locks up.
