Microsoft Windows 10 (32-bit)

I bought this laptop for my daughter for Christmas 2018.  She brought it to me the other day stating it was low on disk space.  I have cleaned off as much as I can and only have less than 1GB available.  I cannot find much on the internet concerning upgrading other than the eMMC drive is probably soldered to the mother board.  I opened it up and found an empty bay where a hard drive could go and even see the mother board labeled with HDD.  There is not a connector soldered where it is labeled.  Crucial.com states a "Crucial MX500 500GB SATA 2.5" 7mm (with 9.5mm adapter) Internal SSD" is 100% compatible with the model, but their installation process seems generic.  Does anyone know if this model can be upgraded or am I stuck with it as is?

I did a little more digging and spoke with someone at Crucial.  It ppears this model HP 14-df0016ds is scaled down and does not follow the maintenance documentation.  They have not istalled the connectors on the motherboard for SATA or M.2 disk drives.  There is supposed to be a second slot for memory that is not available.  So, the answer is this model cannot be upgraded and thanks to HP, I have a paper weight.  Thanks for your response.

Yes, you can ADD normal 2.5" HDD or SSD to your computer and you can use 500GB (as from you message), 1TB or 2TB (at this stage over 2TB HDD won't fit because it is thicker). You also need 2 more parts

  • Hard drive cable  part # L23187-001
  • Hard drive bracket part # L24490-001

And page 36 of the Maintenance and Service Guide shows you how.

Warning : This work is for Authorized Service Provider parts only. Doing it yourself may void warranty if something went wrong due to this upgrade

Hi Banhien

Does this eMMc version also have an m.2 SATA3 slot? Or it is only for Intel core version? (I have a 14-cf0018 model).

If so, then one can add an m.2 SATA3 drive and can do without the hard drive parts which are no longer available in HP parts store last time I checked.

Regards
