HP G72 Notebook
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hello - Wanted to ask for some help - trying to get my older notebook up to speed a bit, but budget is big issue -looking to add RAM. Currently I have 3GB (1+2), can have max of 8GB. From what I've read here, should I look to swap out the 1GB to 2GB to at least make them equal?

HP G72 Notebook PC

Product number: XN517UA#ABA

1GB Adata 667MHz

2GB Micron 667MHz

Thanks for any help!

Here's the Manual:

Manual

It does support up to 8 gigs of DDR2 memory but single 4 gig modules cost at least $50 each so the upgrade to 8 gigs will be much too expensive for that machine.

See p. 4-11 for how-to.

The above is DDR2-800 and you might get an even bigger boost if you install 2 of these. The specs say it can run 800 mhz memory and you have 667. Or just replace the 1 gig with a 2 gig of the same type of memory.

As long as you are running 64 bit Windows you should see something of a performance boost but you can only expect so much out of the now-obsolete processor and overall platform.
