  1. I need to increase the RAM on my HP 15s-FQ2571sa laptop to allow me to run some meaty design software (ideally taking it from 4Gb to 16Gb)...

- Can I ADD to the existing RAM, or do I need to REPLACE it?

- Do I need DDR4 or DDR5 (I can't seem to find out)?

- Is it possible to do this myself, or does it require specialist tools or skills?

Below is the link to the product specs for your notebook.

HP Laptop 15s-fq2571sa Product Specifications | HP® Support

The notebook supports 2 x 8 GB of DDR4-3200 MHz memory.

DDR5 memory won't work because it runs at a lower voltage than DDR4 memory, has a different number of contact pins, and the slot in the DDR5 memory board is cut in a different place than it is on a DDR4 memory chip, making it impossible to install it in your notebook's memory slots.

Since there is a 4 GB memory chip in one of the slots, in order to have 16 GB, you need to remove the 4 GB memory chip and install an 8 GB memory chip in both slots.

Recommended memory:

Crucial 16GB Kit (2x8GB) DDR4-3200 SODIMM | CT2K8G4SFRA32A | Crucial UK

Your notebook uses the same manual as the 15s-dy0xxx model series.
