Adding RAM

My model (15-dy5xxx)  has 2 slots with 4GB DDR4 RAM each, for a total of 8GB. Memory speed is 3200 MT/s.

How can I upgrade to at least 16GB RAM total ?

Your HP Laptop 15-dy5xxx can be fitted with up to 2x16GB of DDR4 PC4-25600, 3200 MHz, Non-ECC, SODIMM, 260-pin RAM sticks.

For 2x8GB RAM sticks, I would recommend one of these 2x8GB (matching) RAM kits:

Если у вас есть 2 слота на 3200, вы можете его увеличить. Но сначала попробуйте ввести команды wmic memphysical get MaxCapacity, MemoryDevices. (и другие) в консоли Windows, чтобы узнать, какой объем оперативной памяти поддерживает ваш ноутбук. В качестве совета, если вы хотите повысить производительность (особенно для игр), рассмотрите возможность использования 2-ранговой памяти.

Yes, dual-rank RAM has its advantages, but that is not going to happen with 8GB RAM sticks.  If the OP wants dual-rank RAM, choose 2x16GB RAM sticks.

For all intents and purposes, two RAM sticks (even if single-rank) will enable dual-channel mode on most laptops/desktops, which already gives a nice bandwidth boost over one stick.

Dual-rank modules (i.e. 16GB RAM sticks) can provide a bit more bandwidth in some cases because the memory controller can interleave accesses across ranks, but the real-world gain is usually fairly modest (2–8% in most games and applications).

+, At the time, installing a 16х2 2nd-rank RAM allowed me to increase my performance by at least 10%, and most importantly, it eliminated minor lags.
