Hi,
I would like to add an SSD to my laptop. Will it affect my warranty if I add it by myself without going go service center?

@SIV14 Welcome to HP Community!
I understand that you would like to add the SSD.
(HP does not recommend upgrades as the device is equipped with parts that perform at its optimal performance and also, the upgradeable parts listed in HP articles are purely for your ease, though the decision to upgrade will be at your own discretion)
I have checked the manual.
Your product support Dual storage configuration
256 GB, PCIe, NVMe, TLC, solid-state drive + 1 TB, 7200 rpm hard drive
128 GB, PCIe, NVMe, TLC, solid-state drive + 1 TB, 7200 rpm hard drive
128 GB, PCIe, NVMe, TLC, solid-state drive + 1 TB, 5400 rpm hard drive
SSD is not a user-replaceable part. I would suggets you contact our phone support and check for the support option.
Or you can contact the local service center for replacement.
Here is how you can get in touch with phone support.
1)Click on this link - www.hp.com/contacthp/
2)Select the product type.
3)Enter the serial number of your device or select let HP detect your product option.
4)Select the country from the drop-down.
5)You should see the HP phone support number or Chat option listed.
We are experiencing longer than expected wait times to reach an agent due to the CoViD-19 impact and there might have been issues in you getting the expected resolution on the issue.

The upgrade is doable by an end user and will not void the warranty. An SSD would make a world of difference in the performance of the laptop. If you wish to proceed with it post back and detailed instructions and product purchase suggestions can be given. It does entail some risk and HP Service Centers in India are very good and will do the upgrade for you if you want to pursue that.

Here is the Service Manual:
Pages 27-30 show how to do it. Note its under customer self-repair section so no warranty issue.
Purchase suggestion above. It will take a pcie/nvme M.2 SSD. The Crucial is good on price, a little slower than the true top-end options like Samsung 970 Evo, but still very fast. Post back if you need any more help. Please accept as solution if this is the info you needed.
