ZBook 15 G3
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I would like to add a 2.5" HDD to my Zbook 15 G3 (V2W13UT#ABA) .  After adding the HDD to the bracket that comes with unit the bracket doesn't seat all the way down since its sitting high it looks like the smart card reader will also not sit at the correct height to re-assemble.

Can the smart card reader still be used if the HDD pocket is occupied?

Is there a different bracket needed installing the HDD then what comes with the unit?

Are there special slim 2.5" HDDs?

Thanks

@Hasslefree3 , welcome to the Community.

Here is the Maintenance and Service Guide: http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c04956181

On Pages 58 and 59 is a list of compatible hard drives and how to remove and install them.  Here is the specifications for the 1 TB Hybrid on HP PartSurfer: https://partsurfer.hp.com/Search.aspx?searchText=924036-853

It doesn't appear to be a special drive, 7mm.  Also, if you look at Page 57 it shows how to remove and replace the Smart card reader.

I believe that they should both, hard drive and card reader, fit flat in the case.  HP wouldn't engineer it any other way.

I have those docs, but thanks.  Turned to be the HDD its 9.5mm thick Western Digital 726839-001.  After reading a little more it seems most of the solidstate drives tend to be 7mm and are often shipped with thin plastic adapter to get them to 9.5mm as this was the original thickness for the 2.5" Sata Drive
