If the addition of SDD to HDD can improve the performance in that case can I add an extra SDD to my laptop

Yes, you can add M.2 NVMe or SATA 3 SSD to your machine and MOVE boot drive to SSD to get better performance because your machine only has a slow 1 TB 5400 rpm SATA HDD now. The following M.2 SSD products are compatible with your machine

My suggestion:

 

(a) Buy new M.2 SSD,

(b) Clone old HDD (or at least C:) to SSD,

(c) Remove HDD and install M.2 SSD,

(d) Run with SSD only for few ays or a week,

(e) When happy, format old HDD and put it back.
