Pavilion 14-ce0502sa
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi all, first post so apologies if it's in the wrong place!

My laptop currently uses a 128GB M2 SSD on the motherboard and has space within the laptop for a secondary drive, i believe i can run either a traditional form factor 2.5'' drive or purchase an adapter and install another M2 style drive in this position.

The mother board has what looks to be a 10pin ZIF connector next to the bay so i presume all my assumptions about being able to install a second drive are correct

I have done a little research and came across a manual for the Pavilion 14 (http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c05527168) and it gives the following part number for the cable 930596-001 but the images within the manual of the internals of the laptop are different to the internals of my laptop

Does anyone know if this is the correct part number to allow me to connect a 500GB 2.5'' SSD

The part is £45 so i do not want to take a punt.

Many thanks

Hi @Alexg100

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Here's the Maintenance and Service Guide for HP Pavilion 14 Laptop PC.

You may install the drive in this configuration - 128-GB, SATA, solid-state drive with TLC + 500-GB hard drive.

The hard drive bracket is available using the spare part number L19469-001. The hard drive cable is available using the spare part number L19172-001.

For installation instructions, refer to page# 63 to 65 from the same Service Guide.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.

Hi and thank you for your reply, greatly appreciated

I've a couple of questions

1. You say 'TLC + 500-GB hard drive' - what significant is the TLC + or can i use any SATA 2.5'' drive?

2. Again referring to the quoted text above, how significant is the 500GB, is that the max, min or only size drive that may be used within this slot

3. Once the SSD is installed do i need to change any aspect of the BIOS configuration or install any additional drivers to run this secondary drive?

4. I purchased an SSD cable which was not specified for my laptop and the system did not recognise the drive, is this because of the incorrect cable was used or could it be due to issues relating to question one and two

Thanks again

@Alexg100

I'd suggest using the part# listed in the Service Guide as that has been tested on your Notebook PC.

As the operating system is installed on the 128 GB M.2 SSD, it will remain your primary drive.

HP does not recommend upgrading or downgrading hardware parts or software that is bundled with the product as It may affect the manufacturer's warranty and performance, however, you could change the configuration at your own discretion.
