Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi,

My BIOS was F.29. Yesterday I updated it to F.31 which is listed under software updates for my machine on the HP website. I downloaded the exe file and opened it in Windows 10. The part of installation in Windows worked without any problems. The same with the second part after restarting. During the whole installation there were no problems reported.

However, after the update the laptop's fans stopped working. When I boot into the BIOS setup fans are off and the machine gets really hot. The same with booting into HP Recovery Tools, fans are off. When I boot into Windows laptop gets really hot and works very slowly. In Windows fans starts working only sometimes, randomly and instantly on full power, then they stop at all.

I reckon, this is the BIOS issue as it appeared streight after I updated it. So I need to roll it back. I tried doing it with the 'fn' + B combination, it installs the same updated f.31 BIOS. The same situation when I boot into hp tools and go to Firmware, the only BIOS file there is the updated f.31 file.

Where can I find and download the previous BIOS version that worked fine? I don't want this laptop to melt down.

Thanks

Hi and thank you so much!

It worked! I downloaded the version of BIOS that you suggested in the link and followed the video tutorial. The fans are back on, spinning happily.

I was already afraid I would have to send my laptop to a service centre even though the solution seemed to be that obvious.

I have no idea about reporting bugs however, it seems that the BIOS update f.31 switches off the fans in the type of a machine that I have. The description of the update says that it should optimise the cooperation between processor, fans and the system, minimise fans' spinning, but it turns the fans off at all. This is dangerous as there were no error messages during a boot process, saying anything about the fans not working, and yet the system started and the laptop was getting really hot.

Anyway, what you suggested solved the problem. It'd be quite hard to find this package on my own in the HP ftp database.

Best wishes
Sebastian
