After upgrading the SSD to 1TB on my HP Victus 15-fa1278TX gaming laptop, I updated the BIOS through the HP Support Assistant app. However, the System Information window shows BIOS version 10.6.0.0, while the BIOS setup (opened using the F2 key) displays version 2.6.3.0 How is this possible? How can I upgrade the BIOS version shown in the BIOS setup? If my laptop is running BIOS version F.02, will it cause any problems?

Hi @BALA_NIT.

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

I’m sorry you’re going through this; I understand the concern and don’t worry I’ll help you with this.

To better understand the issue, could you please provide a few more details?

Whether the BIOS update was downloaded directly from HP’s official support site or only through HP Support Assistant.

If you noticed any warnings or errors during the BIOS update process.

Here are a few troubleshooting steps that might help clarify and resolve the mismatch:

  • Cross-check BIOS version: Restart the laptop, press F10 (instead of F2) to enter BIOS setup, and confirm the version shown there. Sometimes different menus display different identifiers.
  •  HP Support Assistant vs. Windows System Info: The System Information window in Windows may show the firmware interface version rather than the actual BIOS build number. The BIOS setup screen is usually the authoritative source.
  •  Manual BIOS update: Visit HP’s official support page for your exact model (Victus 15-fa1278TX) and download the latest BIOS update package. Running the installer manually can ensure the correct version is flashed.
  •  Check current BIOS label: If your BIOS setup shows F.02, that’s the HP naming convention. As long as it matches the latest release on HP’s site, you’re fine it won’t cause problems. The mismatch with “10.6.0.0” is likely just a reporting quirk.
  • If the mismatch persists, you can reset BIOS settings to default (via BIOS menu or by removing the CMOS battery briefly) to ensure clean detection.

From what you’ve described, running BIOS version F.02 should not cause any issues if it’s the latest available for your model. The laptop should function normally.
