Got the same trouble today after playing total war rome 2 for 10 minutes.
Then it suddenly went blacksreen out of nothing.
i pressed the power button and omen turned on, so i realized that it went sleeping mode, therefore all game continued running. I started touching everything in case of overheating and didn't seem to be very hot. But i didn't close the game so in couple minutes omen just went black again.
So then i woke it up again and closed game and shut down the laptop to safely flip it and tried to clean radiators from some dust (there was not much at all) with vacuum.
After this i opened the lid and pressed the power button, but it did nothing. just black screen, no fan sounds, no lights. Then i found some topics about this issue on reddit and this solution. So i did everything according to Robertmccall's instruction (disconnected that issued sensor) and my hp omen 16 turned on. First it said that there is some bios problem and it will reset it. After that reset my laptop turned on as normal and started working fine.
But yes, it can not know if lid is closed anymore, so now i have to put it to sleeping mode manually if i want to just close a lid and continue working later.
Also i went to gaming hub and manually changed fan settings to keep temperature of cpu a bit lower generally.
Also, there surely a problem with total war rome 2 because it makes cpu heating up more then anything else ever. (Other games or heavy software work normal).
Thank you Robertmccall for solution.
But dear HP please do something with this, because this is a very common problem and it will affect probably every hp omen with same lid sensor position after high heating situation.
Upd: forget to mention. My hp omen has i7 13th core and nvidia 4070.
But the problem is surely not about cpu itself but about the positioning of that sensor and that it is made of wax or idk what that it melts like that.
Cooling system and radiators also could be a bit more effective for this price.
And the saddest part is that hp just ignores this problem and doesn't even answer in this topic 😞

Same issue, 2023 Omen with Intel, rtx4070.
At first started random turning off laptop screen. Keyboard then doesn't work, same with power key. External keyboard still works and External monitor.
Turning off while In this state, it's impossible to turn back on. The pc can also enter this state if moving screen or laptop.
It's got all updates, drivers, bios, etc. Failure is not software based. I tried in windows to change setting on lid close to do nothing, but seems the hardware sensor triggers this Failure state where you can't use keyboard or screen and therefore can't turn laptop back on either.
I Will hand it back to the shop I bought it from as we have 5 years consumer protection laws In Norway, but they can fix it.
My pc was a refurbished one, open box. So I think previous owner maybe also had issues.

Hello,
I had the same issue on my HP OMEN 16-wf0174ng, which I bought in Germany in October 2023. First the error appeared randomly but at the end it did not start anymore.
The PC was sent to Curstomer Service 15.07. and today I got it back.
The conclusion was: They replaced the motherboard.
But when I read the thread here and the one from Reddit: https://www.reddit.com/r/HPOmen/comments/1bmgwkc/hp_omen_16_2023_motherboard_black_screen_dead/?tl=d... I am not convinced with the solution just replacing the old moterhboard with a new motherboard.
I will update this post if it happens again.

Facts:
Bought: 10/2023
Problem started: 05/2024
Problem fixed: 08/2024
Fix: Mainboard replacement, Partnumber: N44817-601 (https://www.serviceparts.nl/en-eu/products/n44817-601)
Question: Can somebody tell if the linked mainboard replacement has the same design problem again?

As people say, they replace motherboard for another one with same issue. So if circumstances that trigger that sensor to die appear again then laptop is not turning on again.
Good side is that it's only this sensor that dies, so laptop still works fine if you manage to go around that sensor, for example - just unplugging it from motherboard as shown in the instruction of topic starter. So there two solutions that prevent this issue from happening again: unplugging bad sensor or getting another laptop.

Yes, in Norway at least if it happends a third time, one can get. money back from purchase (included interest rates from puchase date). Thats within 5 years of original purchase. So I am kindof "secured" in that way, I will soon hand it into the shop. But guess I have to first take backup etc.

My laptop would turn on with the magnet, but now it doesn't turn on, but it's charging. I would like to know if I disconnect the hall sensor, would I be able to turn on the laptop without the laptop?
If the hall sensor is disconnected will the screen and keyboard of the laptop turn back on?

Try to move the magnet slightly sideways while pressing power button, that it will turn on again.
But of course you cant be doing that all the time 😛 I am kindof "afraid" of turning off the machine, LOL...
But I will build a new PC for my son and then send this in to service, luckilly I have some spare PC parts laying around so I just need a graphics card.

Same issue with my laptop. Service center guys come and and just suggest to change motherboard
This happened within 6 month of buying the i7 rtx4070 laptop.
Pathetic HP company, this way consumer will go for extended warranty. Fraud company HP india
I am sending them formal mail and share it with consumer court.
