Hi,

I currently have the same problem with an HP Omen 16 (AMD Rysen 9 / Geforce RTX 4070 processor) purchased in July 2023.

Worked well until April 2024 then black screen problems appeared, first few in number (during games) then more frequently even when I did'nt play.

Next step the keyboard found itself blocked along with the black screen (the PC continues to work; display on TV via HDMI OK).

It unblocked itself after a certain time but after a few days the keyboard no longer responded so it was now impossible for me to restart the computer.

As the PC is still under warranty I hesitate to carry out the recommended manipulations.

Still waiting for un HP anwser.

Thanks for your post.

Thank you for this thread. My notebook (Omen 16-wfxxx, Intel I9 with RTX-4070) displays the same symptoms, and it is good to know finally the true nature of the problem. I hope it wouldn't take any longer for HP to do the right thing.

Date of purchase: 24th November 2023

Date of symptom first encountered: 22nd May 2024

I have the Omen 16 with rtx 4060 and ryzen 7840HS which is 1 month old now. Will this problem occur? And if it does, by disconnecting the sensor cable it'll surely work?

HP OMEN 16 With AMD has similar problem. They told that they would replace motherboard.

But the problem will just occur again after few months right. Then by disconnecting the sensor hall ribbon, that would be the only solution right?

Does it has back ports, like HDMI and Charger? If it does, YES you'll have problems with.

Removing the ribbon tho, will fix the issue permanently but laptop won't sleep once you shut the lid.

I got same issue, did they replaced your unit? Or just replaced motherboard which eventually have same problem.

I bought the laptop a month ago. Still haven't faced any issues yet. But I'm still concerned. Most people have said that disconnecting the ribbon works if it happens, so I'll probably do that.

It'll take a while but the sensor will eventually become faulty and start to be an issue, that's when the screen goes black. So unplugging the ribbon the sensor goes off and isn't a problem.

I fixed it myself and then sold the laptop before it was too late!

I don't wanna sell, so if the black screen appears, I could just disconnect the ribbon and it'll work just fine albeit it won't sleep when lid is closed. Is that correct?
