Hi @XIM2,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

I understand your HP laptop is not charging properly — when you plug it in at 15%, the charging light flashes red briefly, then white, and Windows does not show “plugged in,” though you can still adjust energy-saving settings. Let’s go through steps to troubleshoot this.

Check the power adapter and cable

Make sure you are using the original HP charger that came with the laptop.

Inspect the cable and connector for damage or bent pins. A faulty adapter can cause intermittent charging.

Test with another compatible HP charger if available.

Inspect the charging port

Check the laptop’s charging port for dust or debris and gently clean it with a soft brush or compressed air.

Ensure the connector fits snugly — a loose connection can prevent proper charging.

Perform a power reset

Shut down the laptop completely.

Disconnect the charger and remove the battery if possible (some models have non-removable batteries).

Hold the power button for 30–60 seconds to drain residual power.

Reconnect the charger and battery, then power on the laptop.

Check Windows battery settings

Go to Settings → System → Power & Battery → Battery Health (if available).

Some HP laptops have a Battery Protection Mode that stops charging at a certain level — ensure this is turned off or set correctly.

Update BIOS and drivers

Visit the HP Support website and download the latest BIOS and battery drivers for your laptop model.

Outdated BIOS can cause charging detection issues.

Test battery health

Press Windows + X → Windows Terminal (Admin) and type powercfg /batteryreport.

Open the generated report to check the battery’s design capacity vs current capacity.

If the battery capacity is very low, it may no longer charge reliably and may need replacement.

I hope this helps.
