Hi,

I started learning Java today, and suddenly became aware that nor angle brackets or backslash work on my keyboard. I figured out that the button for angle brackets is currently mapped as Ctrl. Both "+" and "?" work, but backlash wont appear through altGr. I have a nordic keyboard.

I tried uninstalling the driver, but that didn`t change anything. Any clever tips for me?

🙂

@Vidarium We got you covered, here's a set of steps that should help resolve the issue once and for all, that said, let's get started:

You might have multiple languages or keyboard language layouts available on your computer. Follow these steps to check and switch the keyboard language layout.

  1. On the taskbar, to the left of the icons, click the keyboard language icon to check the keyboard language.

    • If the language is correct, but you cannot type the correct alternate character, continue to the next step.

    • If the language is not correct, select the correct language, and then try typing the alternate key again.

    • If the correct language is not listed, please see the section Changing the keyboard layout.

      Figure : Change keyboard language

  2. Click the keyboard icon to switch between keyboard layouts for that language.

(By the end of this article all the issues should be resolved)

Thank you for your reply 🙂

unable to use these buttons for >< and \unable to use these buttons for >< and \

I`ve set my keyboard to english just to be able to find "<>" and "\". The button highlighted for <> is mapped as Ctrl. Not sure why.  Hitting alt gr will not give me "\". I have already tried the steps you showed me, and tried to remap the <> button with Keytweak, but did not find <> on keytweak. Perhaps I missed something there. I found another thread somewhere having the same issue as mine, but no replies there.

@Vidarium I must let you know that this depends on the location you are in, if its not English US you are using in your region, change the keyboard layout accordingly to the region this device was sold in, and it should resolve the issue, if the issue persists, reinstall the keyboard drivers and check if it works in a new user account.

Keep me posted.

Hi, and thanks for replying.

I found this on the forum. I`m clearly not the only one with the same keyboard issues in Norway: https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Software-and-How-To-Questions/The-greater-than-less-than-sign... The same problem as I have. Yes, as I stated in my first post, I have uninstalled the driver (twice even just to be sure). I`ve also chosen my own language for input. If you look at the photo I posted you will see that there are some characters on my keyboard from the norwegian/danish alphabet.

I bought it late 2018, but I haven`t used it until now. The fans were so loud during idle that I didn`t bother having it on. I figured it was a BIOS-issue with the fans (was with my previous Omen), and just waited for an update. A few BIOS-updates later and the fans were just as evil. I just recently figured out that my CPU were at 85-100 degrees Celsius during idle. No wonder the fans were going nuts. I used Throttlestop to undervolt it. Now it is at 35-42 during idle, and 60-73 during gaming.

Do read the link I provided. He might have been better at explainig the issue than I was.

@Vidarium I appreciate the link and the details, I'm assuming you've gone through the steps mentioned by the tech (similar to what I had suggested) however, if the issue persists, and Ofcourse, considering the latest developments about overheating and the noisy fan, I suggest you talk to HP support and discuss your options, follow the below steps to get started:

1) Click on this link - http://www.hp.com/contacthp/

2) Click on Sign-in or select the product using the below step:

3) Enter the serial of your device.

4) Select the country from the drop-down.

5) Click on "Show Options".

Fill the web-form, to populate a case number and phone number for yourself!

Also, if you are having trouble navigating through the above options, it's most likely because the device is out of warranty, if yes? please send me a private message with the region you are contacting us from,

here's how private messages work: Click here for details.

If you wish to thank me for my efforts, you could click on "Accept as solution" on my post as the solution should help others too.
