Spectre x360
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I have a spectre X 360 15-b1012dx, purchased 10/29/17, and dead and useless March 29, 2019. Woke up to the same problem apparently many other people have had - a fried motherboard! I didn't know that at the time but it turns out my path of failure was similar to many other's failure. Battery charges slowly, sometimes not at all, a slow failure but not the adaptor's fault (wish I had that fifty back I spent on another adaptor, just in case), eventually doesn't charge at all but battery is good, can't boot up, banging on the F2 does nothing. Just black, and unusable. I didn't know I wasn't the only person when I worked my through the virtual assistant all the way up to a person to be told that the motherboard is dead.   When I expressed my outrage that a motherboard died on a highly ranked very expensive laptop in less than a year and 1/2 - and I had done absolutely nothing to cause it - I was offered a 35% discount off a 700 repair bill, good for that day only. I declined.

That evening, a friend said to me that he would never buy an HP because they make crappy motherboards. Started researching, and darn, he's right, there is a problem and it's one that appears to have been around for a while. Found lots of examples of motherboard failure, many times just out of warranty, just like mine. In some cases, HP repaired free of charge; in others, they did not. I spent a lot of money on this computer to do a very specific thing that I can't do on my other devices - I have to have this computer fixed. It just doesn't seem right that I should have to pay for it, warranty  or no warrenty  I realize that stuff happens, but this stuff has happened a lot. Why does it keep happening? I already spent 1500 - I had expectations that it would last longer than a year and 1/2. I loved the computer until four days ago, now I'm just mad and upset. Can anybody help? Has it happened to you? How prevalent is this problem? How do I get HP to cover the repair?

Thank you .
