Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi,

I've got an elite x2 which worked well until some hours ago. Now, the keyboard is deactivated as soon as the built in magnet gets close to the screen.  The keyboard is only actice when it is loosely connected with the screen. This is strange for in the notebook mode, the keyboard should be attached to the screen with the magnet.

What's wrong?

Regards

Franz

I suggest that you update the BIOS.

Did this happen after a recent Windows update?

Is the keyboard section's battery charging fully?

Hi Erico,

thank you for your answer.  There was no recent windows update before that error happened. i just shut down the computer, set it into clamshell mode. After about 2 hrs I restarted the computer and from then on that error happened.

Does an Elite X2 keyboard have a battery? It should only work when it is plugged into the computer, so I guess it doesn't need a battery. Actually, the keyboard does work, but not in the position where it is supposed to work. (It should work when the built-in magnet bar touches the screen)

Hor can I update the BIOS?

Best regards

Franz

If you provide the product name(SKU) I should be able to provide you with a link to the software download sectio of the suport portal for your Elite X2.

From a booted to Windows state, in the search window type in msinfo to invoke the system information dialogug.

There is a list that will include the product name and number(SKU).

The SKU will give me hardware configuration information that I will need.

Updating the BIOS is a matter of downloading the ROM file to you Elite X2 while connected to a power adapter and executing the file as the notebook's  operating system administrator.

Warning!!
Do not turn the notebook off while updating the BIOS as doing that could brick (make you notebook a useless object) your notebook. Wait until there is an update complete messae onscreen. The update could take three minutes or longer.

Hi Franz,

Support Portal for your Elite x2
https://support.hp.com/us-en/product/hp-elite-x2-g4/26867567/model/26867568?sku=5ZP10AV

Driver,Software and firmware download page

https://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/selfservice/hp-elite-x2-g4/26867567/model/26867568

There is a Critical Driver-enabling update available there (HP Application Driver) that you should install ASAP.

Happy Holidays!
Enjoy some Gluhwein! I wish I had some, but living in South Florida there is hardly the need to warm up.

Best regards,

Eric

Hi Eric,

I ve updated all drivers and the result is that the keyboard doesn't work at all uninstalling the drivers and restarting didn't help. Also Glühwein didn't help😉

What shallI do now

Franz

HP Recommended

Remove the travel keyboard.

Shut down the Elite X2 G4 Tablet.

Press and hold the power button for 30 seconds.

Make sure you keep the power button pressed for at least 30 seconds.

During this time, you may see the HP logo flash on the screen one time - ignore this and keep the button pressed.

Release the power button and reattach the keyboard.

Power on the computer

Actually I did this at first for this trick is mentioned in every forum. Managed to borrow a USB mouse and a USB keyboard. Both work with the computer. So, could this be a hardware failure? I just wonder if is possible, for the tablet is less then two years old.

Best regards Franz.

Yes.

It could be a hardware failure.

You should be able to run an HP PC Hardware Diagnostic UEFI test on the tablet.

I suspect that the issue is the collaborative keyboard.
