Hi @PETER66666,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If you're experiencing issues with your laptop battery, there are several potential reasons for the behavior you've described. Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot and address the problem.

Calibrate the Battery:

  • Sometimes the battery calibration can be off, causing incorrect readings. To calibrate your battery, follow these steps:
    • Charge your laptop to 100%.
    • Disconnect the charger and use your laptop until it automatically shuts down due to low battery.
    • Reconnect the charger and allow the laptop to charge back to 100% without interruptions.

Check Power Settings:

  • Ensure that your power settings are configured correctly. Go to your laptop's power settings and make sure they are optimized for your usage.

Update BIOS and Drivers:

  • Check if there are any BIOS updates or driver updates available for your laptop. HP often release updates that can address battery-related issues.

Battery Health Report:

  • Most laptops have a built-in tool to generate a battery health report. This report can provide insights into the battery's condition and may help identify any issues.

Battery Replacement:

  • If your laptop is still under warranty, and you've tried all the troubleshooting steps, consider contacting the manufacturer for assistance. If the laptop is no longer under warranty, you may need to replace the battery.

Power Management Software:

  • Some laptops come with power management software that can affect battery charging behavior. Check if your laptop has any such software installed and configure it appropriately.

Check for Background Processes:

  • Make sure there are no unnecessary background processes or applications running that could be draining your battery.

Physical Inspection:

  • Inspect the battery for any physical damage. If the battery is swollen or shows signs of damage, it should be replaced immediately.

Remember to back up your important data before performing any hardware-related troubleshooting or replacements.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
