I've searched this community looking for a straight answer on how to control the backlight keyboard timeout and HP has failed to find a fits-all solution. Instead of adding it as an option in the Windows Settings or Device Management, even create an App that does this, they decided to add it to the "Advanced" section in the BIOS that many of us, including me, don't have or see. I tried to reset the defaults in the BIOS with no luck in seeing the Advanced tab.

I looked into the latest BIOS and Firmware updates and found nothing of this sort in the horizon https://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/selfservice/hp-spectre-13-ae000-x360-convertible-pc/16779579

At this point, it is very clear that HP needs to come up with a way to control this piece of hardware and make it easier than the BIOS to control the timeout. Dear HP,  you have heard this issue many times and yet after more than 1 year, there is no solution.

We need an after Windows App that does this easily or create a driver setting that allows for timeout manipulation. Ideally, it would be a setting in the windows settings, just like you can control the display settings, etc.

I would like to hear from HP support with a time frame for this issue being resolved as I am sure it is in the making (I hope) and not another attempt to mark an issue as Solved when it actually isn't.

We here at the Forum have no ability to do this for you. I will try to escalate this to an HP employee but you should do a check of expectations as I seriously doubt an app is going to be written for this. Good luck.
