I'm attempting to install a BIOS update (BIOS F.46 Rev.A - sp84005.exe). Current BIOS is F.45.
When I run sp84005.exe it appears to complete successfully and PC reboots, but the reboot process does not appear to update the BIOS and once reboot is complete BIOS is still at version F.45.

Thank you for posting on HP Forums, MKazi is at your service.
I understand that you have an HP ENVY m7-n100 Notebook and are unable to update the BIOS on it..
May I know the reason for attempting the BIOS update?
Are you facing any issues with the laptop?
Are you checking if the BIOS is updated or not in Windows or in the BIOS?
The reason I'm asking you these questions is that HP does not recommend a BIOS update unless recommended by an HP technician.
Meanwhile, to find the current BIOS version on your computer, follow the steps below:
-
In Windows search for msinfo32.exe, and click msinfo32.exe in the list of results.
-
In the System Information window under the System Summary category, look for the BIOS Version/Date entry. This is your current BIOS version.

You may also refer to this HP article to explore other ways to update the BIOS on your HP laptop.
Hope this helps. Let me know. Cheers! 🙂

MKazi, thank you for responding. To answer your questions:
I am attempting to update the BIOS because HP states on the Details tab for this newer version (F.46 Rev.!, sp84005): “Provides improved security of UEFI code”. “HP strongly recommends transitioning promptly to this updated BIOS version which supersedes all previous releases.” Are these statements erroneous? If they are in fact accurate, it sounds like I should install this update.
I am not facing any known issues with the laptop.
I am checking the BIOS version in the BIOS, it shows F.45. I have also now checked the BIOS version via msinfo, it shows BIOS version F.45, 5/23/2017.
I’m confused by your comment that “HP does not recommend a BIOS update unless recommended by an HP technician”. You have millions of PCs in use, how can it be that customers should not be proactive in updating BIOS versions? It is physically impossible for HP to contact all customers impacted by a significant BIOS update.
I am hoping that you, or someone else on this forum, can provide me more meaningful information on how I can overcome this problem.

Hi,
we are two users with the same issue.
We just get from the official HP update drivers a BIOS UPDATE that is "F.46".
We already has the F.45 version (by BIOS or by Windows the version is the same, no matter where you see it).
So, we just ran that update and... nothing happen after the reboot.
Instead, with the previous update: BIOS F.45 Rev.A sp80785 and BIOS F.36 Rev.A sp76913 we didn't have any problem in updating, just ran them, reboot, auto-installing firmware, and we got the update.
So the issue is related only to the version BIOS F.46 Rev.A sp84005.

- Press the Power button to start the computer and repeatedly press the F10 key to enter the BIOS setup menu.
- On the BIOS Setup screen, press F9 to select and load the BIOS Setup Default settings.
- Press F10 to Save and Exit.
- Use the arrow keys to select Yes, then press Enter when asked Exit Saving Changes?
- Follow the prompts to restart your computer.

Hi,
I prefer to not touch my BIOS settings if possible. Since we have two users with the same computer model, with the same BIOS update and with the same issue about it, might you try to check if is that patch to be bugged?
