And you also reset the bios settings to default before attempting to flash the update, correct?

Another possibility, is to repeat those same steps again except with internet connection disabled.

Does that work?

Windows 10 Home (64-bit)
Version 1909
OS build 18363.836
2017 HP ENVY Notebook M7-U009dx
HP OfficeJet 4650 All-in-One Printer

To solve the problem just use "HP PC Hardware Diagnostics" or "HP PC Hardware Diagnostics UEFI".

tried that didn't work also.

Are you sure you used the UEFI version?

it will bypass the OS so it should work without any issue.

Tell me.

I've spent a lot of time struggleing with this, as I'm sure many on this thread have, and ended up getting it to work though it wasn't easy. Here is what I found/worked for me...

It seems that the BIOS Update is writing the new BIOS file to the UEFI partition but for reasons unknown is not properly seeing it/applying it when rebooting. This is why running the BIOS Update seems fine but when the PC reboots nothing happens.

I was able to get the BIOS update to actually apply by manually rebooting and going into the PC Hardware Diagnostics UEFI menu:

1) Power On and ESC for Startup Menu

2) Choose System Diagnostics (F2)

3) Choose PC Hardware Diagnostics UEFI

4) Choose Firmware Management

5) Choose BIOS Update

6) Select BIOS Image to Apply

When I did this after running the BIOS F.50 update executable, the new BIOS was found/listed/selected and I was able to apply it.

This process worked for me, your mileage my vary.

IMPORTANT FYI: I use Bitlocker and I found this process disabled/invalidated Bitlocker and I had to manually re-enter the Bitlocker key on boot following the update. Not a big deal, but if you are using Bitlocker make sure you have the recovery key available!

That’s what I did some months ago.

Excellent guide.

My PC (HP 15-f039wm) doesn't have a "Firmware Management" options in the system diagnostics. Memory Test, Hard Drive Test, Language, and Exit. That's all I have there.

Me too.

then installed PC Hardware Diagnostics UEFI.

then I got them.

You, sir, are a steely-eyed god amongst men. I was unaware that there was an additional software component required, and nowhere (that I saw) in HP's instructions was that requirement listed. I downloaded and installed the required component, then ran the most-current BIOS update and it all went exactly as it should be.

Kudos to you for knowing something that HP completely forgets to mention!
