Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi,

The battery on my HP Notebook 15 Laptop dies anywhere around 60%-50% without any warning. I'm not sure if the battery icon is indicating the correct battery life. Just a couple weeks ago, it was fine. The laptop itself is several years old, and it still has the stock battery (which is a removable stick thing).

After researching a bit, I believe the problem is that my battery is only charging about halfway, then stops. The battery icon indicator incorrectly displays the battery left at 100%. In other words, my battery only charges up to halfway, but my computer is telling me that it is fully charged.

It is a similar problem to the one this person linked below had, but the BIOS settings HP Support recommended to download in the link aren't for my computer. I went to the HP Support Assistant app to update my computer with any drivers it detected I needed, one of which being a BIOS update, but the problem is still occuring.

What doesn't make sense to me is why my computer is displaying an incorrect percentage of the life left on my battery. I attatched some pictures of a cmd-generated battery report and an HP Support Assistant battery troubleshooter.

My guess is that I just need a new battery (which is no problem) but I want to double-check.

Thanks,

-Shane

Hi:

It sounds to me like your notebook's battery has one or more bad cells.

What happens is the notebook runs fine to a point, but when it gets to the bad cell, it just shuts off w/o warning.

The first thing to do is to look at the battery troubleshooting steps at the link below.

If they don't resolve the problem, you will probably have to replace the battery.
