Common problems for Battery
We would like to share some of the most frequently asked questions about: Battery Reports, Hold a charge, Test and Calibrating Battery . Check out this link: Is your notebook plugged in and not charging?

HP Pavilion
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

After seeing that my battery was not charging when the computer was plugged in, I ran a diagnostic and received the following error code:

MAGGWM-88995G-MFPX7G-C0AM13

Before purchasing a new battery I wanted to check the meaning of the code.

Edit: I'm also receiving a message stating the AC adapter failed, but no error code. I'm not sure that's correct, however, as the computer is plugged in and seemingly running on the adapter's power.

I am actually in Europe where I see some official resellers have the part.

However looking at some American companies I see that this one seems to be good:

https://www.laptopbatteryexpress.com/HP-849909-855-Battery-p/hp-bp02xl-849909-855.htm

Here is an article from PCWorld about batteries where they are mentioned:

Anyway maybe expert @Huffer can add some insight?

Hope it helps,

David

Hi Nick,

The failure code is 601 for the battery which means it has lost most or all capacity to hold a charge.

The part number for the battery is 849909-855

You will have to perform an online search with part number as it is not available in HP parts store.

Example:

https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_trksid=m570.l1313&_nkw=849909-855&_sacat=0

https://it.eetgroup.com/i/849909-855-HP-Inc.-Battery-2-Cells-41Wh-5.36Ah

https://www.impactcomputers.com/849909-855.html

On page 31 of service manual you can see the steps to replace battery:

Let me know if you need further help,

Thank you for responding so quickly. Can you please let me know if that is the only battery that will work with this laptop? I am having an extremely difficult time finding particular battery through reputable vendors.

Yes, that is the only battery. What country are you in?

Ok, so I've done a little bit more research, and it seems like battery # 849909-850 may also be compatible. Can I search for both 849909-850, and 849909-855? I think I'll find additional results (it appears there are more 850s available).

And I am seeing that the vendor for which you'd provided a link appears to be reputable.

So about a day after this post, my battery started re-charging, and also passed the diagnostic. I've already ordered the battery you'd recommended, so I guess I'll keep that handy in the event the battery fails in the future.
