This is a complaint about the battery duration on my laptop. My original product specification located here https://support.hp.com/gb-en/document/c06456995 states that the battery life for mixed usage is up to 10 hours and 30 minutes whilst the video playback battery life is up to 9 hours.
My laptop has a 3 year warranty and I have had the laptop for around 2 years 2 months. Since new, I have only ever managed to get around 2 hours from the battery. Over that period of ownership I have checked the forum and I have followed all of the advice given for extending battery life. All of it. None of the advice worked. I was left wondering if I had got a rogue battery.
In the middle of last year the battery performance got even worse and I used the online problem service. I performed all of the technical tests the technical support asked me to do. Eventually, at the second attempt at reporting the issue, with the battery failing, after another problem determination cycle, I got my battery replaced under my 3 year extended HP warranty.
I now have had my laptop returned from repair fully tested. I thought that surely now I should be able to attain the double digit battery life as described. No. A battery that is now less than a month old, at 7 out of 1000 charging cycles is still around 2 hours longevity. In System > Power & Battery I show 98% equating to 2 hours 19 minutes.
In this post https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Operating-System-and-Recovery/What-is-a-normal-battery-life-o... the "expert" has written, regarding a 3 hour battery life for a 41Wh battery "That is normal, you can work this out roughly: Machine probably consumes 13W to 15W to drive CPU, Screen (the biggest burner), other parts such as RAM, HDD .... with a 41Wh battery you can see it can only run for around 3hrs".
This would indicate that the design of the laptop does not match the description. I believe, from the facts that I have to hand, I have been mislead by HP into buying a laptop that is not fit for purpose. I would not have bought a laptop with a battery life of only around 2 hours. Reading through the forum I am clearly not the only person who has this issue.
In this post https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Hardware-and-Upgrade-Questions/Battery-Life-for-3-cell-41Wh-i... the "HP Support Agent" has written "I have brought your issue to the attention of an appropriate team within HP."
I would appreciate it if this complaint would be passed to the appropriate team.
*Edit* I note that my CPU is a i7-1065G7. Checking the Intel datasheet I see that the Thermal Design Power of this CPU is configurable between 25W and 12W with the nominal value being 15W. Unless I am mistaken this would imply that the CPU alone could drain the battery in 1.64, 3.42 or 2.73 hours respectively. I also note that the active Optane memory power consumption is an additional 5.8W. The numbers really do not seem to be adding up in favour of the stellar advertised battery duration.

Martin
