Common problems for Battery
We would like to share some of the most frequently asked questions about: Battery Reports, Hold a charge, Test and Calibrating Battery . Check out this link: Is your notebook plugged in and not charging?

And if it not charges when turned off then it couldn't be the OS, or can it?

All I can say is until I see a bad battery test, my opinion is its something other than the battery that is the problem. That pretty well leaves the AC adapter or the motherboard charging circuitry.

This was a few days ago. Notice that it indicate a different voltage on cell 4... But all of the following test that indicated a good status shows 0 Voltage on the cell 4

Also notice that the voltage indicated on the cell 4 is 5 DIGITS. And all the following test showed 0 voltage on the same cell. Could then that dead cell causing all this trouble????

Yes it looks like you have an intermittent issue with the smart chip in the battery. Having seen this I now change my diagnosis and say replace the battery.

So then, does that have sense with all the symptoms i've described? Just to be sure and not throw the money on a new battery

HP Recommended

I cannot 100% guarantee a new battery fixes it but yes a bad smart chip in the battery can generate symptoms as you describe. It's a cost-justified roll of the dice, but I would say 80-90% a new battery fixes the problem.

Meanwhile i took apart the battery from the notebook and i'm using it just plugged in to the wall. Since that i've been having 0 issues and i can even play games without the laptop shutting down.

I found and intermediary that imports products to the USA and then they ship it from their mail box to my home in Chile.

The shop that sells the battery here on NewEgg is the same that you share with me but on Ebay.

I also talked with a microsoft agent, they have a lot more tools and knowleadge than the call center people that i talked to. She suggested that definetly wasn't the operative system, wich i corroborate myself installing the official microsoft windows from their website. She also suggested what we were discussing here, that is definetly a hardware issue, let's hope it's the battery and not something inside the motherboard.

I talked with some friends that work on this kind of thing and they also suggested it could be the battery because the laptop works well with just the AC adapter. I've opened my laptop a few times in order to clean the fans, repaste the gpu and cpu, replace thermal pads, install a better ssd and adding one more stick of ram. I've been really cautious with all the procedure and try not to touch directly any component cuz static: I hope this is just a verry bad luck for me and my battery just came bad from the factory and a new one will solve my problems.

I couldn't hurt any component related to the charging process during my cleanings, could i? I've been verry verry carefull and i also take good care for my laptop, not to hit it, shake it or drop it, clean it pretty often and monitor all it's temperatures at all time (i have them on the taskbar so i see them every minute)

uh i forgot something else, you suggested it could be the smart chip inside the battery. What exactly is a smart chip?

HP Recommended

Its an electronic chip inside the battery which communicates with the motherboard. Its how we are able to get information about the battery from the battery. Turns charging on and off and puts out status data. If its damaged/corrupted, the battery will not work right even if the cells are good.
