HP OMEN 17-an155na
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

The battery needs replacing in my son's Omen 17-an155na, showing 315/300 cycles, 87% charged and not charging and only maxing at 8% capacity at circa 600 mAh rather than the circa 6000 mAh the battery is designed to hold.  The laptop was purchased from Currys in November 2019 and is out of warranty.  What are my options for getting the battery replaced most economically and expediently please?

Here is a source for the main battery in the US. Do a search with Google to find a vendor in your part of the world. Use HP + your notebook's  product name+ replacement battery as the keywords in the search.

 

You have two choices. One involves risk and the second does not.

 

Option one: buy the battery and replace it youself. The risk is all yours and is dependent on your mechanical  and technical skill.

 

 

Option two: take the notebook to a laptop shop and pay to gave them replace the battery. The risk is almost non existant, but the cost is higher.

 

The choice is yours.

 

Look online in Youtube to find a battery replacement video for the Omen 17-anxxx series notebook.then decide which way will be your route. Its up to you.

Thank you Erico for your great advice.  It's disappointing HP don't stock the replacement battery required but perhaps that's a good thing given their original lasted less than 2 years.  I've ordered a replacement from a UK website and the replacement process looks relatively straight forward in the youtube video I watched.  I'll know better tomorrow when the battery arrives.  thanks

The new replacement battery arrived and I fitted it as shown in the youtube video but I have a slight issue.

HP Support Assistant is reporting Battery unknown and a Battery Status of "No battery" and a State of "100%, not charging".  Temperature, Battery age, Cycle Count and Full capacity charge are all showing as "unknown".

HP PC Hardware Diagnostics Windows full tests and battery component tests all pass.

Windows appears to be detecting the battery okay.

The problem appears to be specific within HP Support Assistant.

The battery seems to have charged and is holding charge.  I was able to reboot from battery with the AC adapter disconnected.

I have reset the BIOS.

I did not discharge the internal capacitors between removing the old battery and re-seating the new battery, and loathe to take the machine apart again to do this unless absolutely required and know to be the solution.

Could this be due to the non-OEM nature of the replacement battery?

I suggest updating the HP Support Assistant to the latest version as found at the web document in the link below this line.

Ensure that you have the latest BIOS installed. Drivers are at the support portal for your notebook located at the link below this line

If that does not work then the issue may be with the new battery.
