I downloaded the software that determines if the battery is to be recalled, and the software said no. Now the touchpad gap seems to be growing by the day, laptop won't shut etc.. Just saw today 5/2/2020 where hp laptop batteries are now blowing-up. Does anybody at hp want to help me with this battery issue (where the battery swells up and pushes the touchpad out of its correct position) they will not contact me back. HP acts like if the product is out of warranty they are done with it. I will pay to have it fixed but they won't even give me the time of day. What kind of company has HP.com turned into. Now I'm afraid to leave it plugged in.

There are a number of documents that cover the issue - nothing specific to your Spectre, though this means little based on what you are seeing.
It is not just an "HP" issue - other manufacturers of notebooks and phones have issued reports over the years.
From HP (and there may be other documents as well):
"Fat" Battery / Bloated Battery / Swollen Battery
- If the battery is in a swollen or bloated condition, the battery must be removed from the computer and replaced.
- There are no other remedies, tests, or useful options.

The answer is, "I don't know."
I have read that at least some notebooks will do so - I do not know whether yours will run without battery and connected to AC power. I would guess that it will run on AC power alone.
The only other obstacle, should you wish to call it such, is that without the battery, the computer is completely dependent on the AC power. Keep your backups current. Should the power go off, anything that is not saved to disk (or cloud) will be lost (no emails, please, there are likely exceptions). Although not generally necessary or recommended, running without a battery might be a good time to connect the notebook to a battery-backup unit. Personal choice.

I do understand you are trying to make a point and may wish to wait...
Here's the thing:
If you don't remove the battery, it will perhaps damage other components in the computer due to stress.
That you know the battery must be replaced is part of the solution.
Replacing the battery will solve the immediate problem.

HP Spectre x360 Convertible PC - Maintenance and Service Guide
The back cover must be removed.
The battery is easy to remove and replace - that is, the battery is "right there" and it is not buried under other parts.
Part number (also posted on Page 23)
Description Spare part number
Battery, 6-cell, 79-WHr, 3.43-AHr, Li-ion 902499-856
HP does not carry this part number.
You may purchase it from one of your favorite online merchants.

@igor71 Welcome to HP Community!
I understand your concern and I have brought your issue to the attention of an appropriate team within HP.
They will likely request information from you in order to look up your case details or product serial number.
Please look for a private message from an identified HP contact.
Additionally, keep in mind not to publicly post personal information (serial numbers and case details).
If you are unfamiliar with how the Community's private message capability works, you can learn about that here.

Thanks dragon-fur, I will be taking the battery out today. It seems weird that this is the first I'm hearing about this battery problem and I bought the computer on hp.com and I have and account on hp.com that lists the computer. You would think hp.com would be interested in saving the lives of their customers before their houses burn down!
