@Bakshish_12, Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
Thanks for the detailed info! Based on what you've described, this battery issue is not related to the SSD installation. Upgrading from HDD to SSD is generally a good thing for performance and power efficiency. The problem you're experiencing is more likely due to battery health or charging circuitry, and here’s how we can break it down and troubleshoot it step-by-step:

Symptoms Recap:

  • Battery drains in 5–7 minutes.
  • When you plug in the charger, it instantly jumps to “fully charged.”
  • The cycle repeats — drains fast and charges instantly.

What It’s Not:

  • Not caused by the SSD upgrade — SSDs use less power than HDDs.
  • Not a software/OS update issue unless a power management driver was accidentally removed (we'll check this too).

Likely Causes:

  1. Worn-out battery – The battery has degraded and lost its capacity.
  2. Faulty battery charge controller – Miscommunication between Windows and the actual battery state.
  3. Driver/BIOS issue – A corrupted or outdated battery driver or BIOS may cause incorrect readings.
  4. Loose internal battery connection – If the battery is not firmly connected to the motherboard.

Battery Report Check (Windows)

  • Press Win + X → Select Windows Terminal (Admin) or Command Prompt (Admin)
  • Run this command:

powercfg /batteryreport

  • It will save a report to your C:\Users\<YourUserName>\battery-report.html. Open that in your browser and check:
    • Design Capacity vs. Full Charge Capacity (If Full Charge is very low, battery is likely dying)
    • See the battery usage history and charge cycles

Check in Device Manager

  • Press Win + X → Device Manager → Expand Batteries
    • You should see:
      • Microsoft AC Adapter
      • Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery
  • Right-click both and select Uninstall Device → Reboot your laptop. Windows will reinstall them automatically.

BIOS Update & Reset

  • Go to HP Support website → enter your laptop model and download the latest BIOS.
  • You can also enter BIOS at startup (Esc > F10) and choose to "Restore Defaults" in BIOS settings just to eliminate misconfigurations.

Try HP Hardware Diagnostics (Pre-Boot)

  • Turn off laptop → Tap Esc repeatedly while turning it on → Press F2 for diagnostics.
  • Run the Battery Test and note down the status/result (especially if it says "Failed" or "Replace").

Temporary Workaround

If you're in urgent need to use the laptop:

  • Remove the battery (if removable) and work directly on AC power.
  • If it's an internal battery (non-removable easily), just keep it plugged in — but understand this can cause more heat and battery swelling over time.

Next Steps (if hardware is faulty)

  • If the battery report or HP diagnostic shows bad battery health → Battery replacement is the solution. Then you will have to visit the nearest HP authorized service center, the service team will check and assist you.
Kindly follow this link to locate the nearest HP service center: HP® Service Center Locator - United States | HP® Support
(Select the country from the dropdown menu and enter the city name or pincode)

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
