HP 250 G3 Notebook PC

After push the power button, the display remain blank (somehow grey really), but if I remove the battery, the laptop enter in Windows normally. The laptop wasn't used too log time and suspect the battery was empty, but after some checks and put to charge a little I managed to be in BIOS an to test the battery, but message was:

FAILURE ID: 6C3UW1-791CRW-XD7V6K-C08603

PRODUCT ID: J476EA#ABB

Can you provide me the answer for that issue?

Thank you!

Hi @niq_rol,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

I understand your HP laptop and the issue where it only boots with the battery removed, and the battery test returns a failure ID. Let’s go through a few steps to check what could be causing this.

Interpret the Battery Failure ID
– The code 6C3UW1-791CRW-XD7V6K-C08603 indicates a battery hardware failure.
– This means the battery can no longer hold or deliver power normally.

Confirm the failure using HP UEFI Diagnostics
– Restart → press EscF2 for Diagnostics.
– Run “Component Tests → Power → Battery Test” once more to verify the same failure ID appears.

Try an EC (Embedded Controller) reset
– Turn off the laptop, remove the power adapter.
– Hold the power button for 15 seconds.
– Reconnect the adapter (without the battery) and check if it boots consistently.
– This clears controller settings, but it will not repair a failing battery.

Check battery charge behavior
– Insert the battery and connect the charger.
– If the laptop shows charging stuck at 0% or jumps randomly, the cells are deteriorated.
– This confirms the battery is not delivering proper voltage.

Boot with the battery installed but on AC power
– If the laptop still refuses to start or stays on a grey/blank screen, the battery is shorting internally.
– The system will shut down or refuse to power on to protect the motherboard.

Recommended action based on the failure ID
– A battery replacement is required.
– The hardware test confirms the battery has failed and will not recover through charging or software fixes.

I hope this helps.
