When I plug my charger into my laptop, it shows 100% in 5-10 seconds but doesn't actually charge. After a few minutes, it just turns off automatically. I think it is a software issue. Please help fix it.

Hi @kbmk,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
The issue you're describing with your Victus By HP 15.6 Inch Gaming Laptop, where it shows 100% charge instantly and then turns off, might be due to a few different causes. Let's try some troubleshooting steps to address this.
Check Battery Health
Battery Report:
- Open Command Prompt as an administrator.
- Type powercfg /batteryreport and press Enter.
- Navigate to the generated battery report (usually saved in C:\Users\[Your Username]\battery-report.html) and check the battery health status.
HP Battery Check:
- Open the HP Support Assistant.
- Go to the "Battery" tab and run the battery check to see if it shows any issues.
Update Battery Drivers
Update Battery Drivers:
- Open Device Manager (press Windows + X and select Device Manager).
- Expand the "Batteries" section.
- Right-click on each device listed under "Batteries" (usually "Microsoft AC Adapter" and "Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery") and select "Update driver".
- Choose "Search automatically for updated driver software".
Uninstall and Reinstall Battery Drivers:
- In Device Manager, right-click on each device under "Batteries" and select "Uninstall device".
- After uninstalling, restart your laptop. The drivers should reinstall automatically.
BIOS Update
- Update BIOS:
- Go to the HP Support website.
- Enter your laptop model and download the latest BIOS update.
- Follow the instructions to update your BIOS.

Power Reset
- Perform a Power Reset:
- Turn off your laptop.
- Disconnect the power adapter.
- Press and hold the power button for 15-20 seconds.
- Reconnect the power adapter and turn on your laptop.
Check Power Settings
Adjust Power Settings:
- Go to Settings > System > Power & sleep.
- Ensure that your power settings are not set to put your laptop to sleep or hibernate too quickly.
Run Power Troubleshooter:
- Go to Settings > Update & Security > Troubleshoot.
- Select "Power" and run the troubleshooter.
Battery Calibration
- Calibrate the Battery:
- Charge your laptop to 100%.
- Use your laptop on battery power until it shuts down due to low battery.
- Charge it again to 100% without interruptions.
Software Updates
Check for Windows Updates:
- Go to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update.
- Check for updates and install any available.
Update HP Software:
- Open the HP Support Assistant and check for any software updates specific to your laptop.
If none of these steps resolve the issue, it could be a hardware problem with the battery or the charging circuitry.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
